Stack Rule

By Nemomon, in Talisman Rules Questions

Can Monk use the Robe and add up to 2 (and Knight up to 3) while praying? For me they can, At least they should be able to combine that two numbers and add them while praying. Of course I know about "stacking rule" that disallow add same thing from different sources.

Same question is with for example Unicorn and Black Unicorn. If we have both of them, are they adding 2 to our S and C or just 1?

Finally, last question, said many times, I even might read answer at it, however I'll ask myself too. Is Inner Belief, War Horse and Psionic Blast stack? Are we able to use all of them together, only few of them (spell + Follower ; spell + ability ; ability + Follower) or just only one of them?

My opinion is that the Stack Rule as we know it has never been clear.

You bring the example of the Black Unicorn and Unicorn. If this were true, no Character would benefit from Followers and Objects that increase Strength/Craft or combat results. If similar effects don't stack, you could not have both Maiden and Solomon's Crown and get 4 Craft.

Obviously this is not how it should be understood. The abilities that cannot be stacked have something peculiar in it: most known examples are Wand held by Wizard/Prophetess and Orb of Knowledge + Prophetess. The experts said that Inner Belief, Warhorse and Psionic Blast don't stack and therefore we should extend the rule to Anointed Robe and Characters with Praying ability.

But I don't like it. I wish we have a criterion to distinguish between what is stackable and what is non stackable. My idea is: "you cannot stack effects that give you a special power or ability, if you already possess the same power or ability" and "you can stack all bonuses and maluses derived from Objects, Followers, Spells or Special Abilities".

You cannot use the Wand as a Wizard because it says "when you have cast your last Spell, you immediately draw a new one" (or something like that), which is the same ability that you already have. It cannot be interpreted as a bonus. On the contrary, Anointed Robe is a bonus to the Pray roll and should be added to current bonuses. For Inner Belief/Warhorse/Psyonic Blast it's a bit trickier, but if you interpret all these effects as bonuses instead of Abilities, it should work fine. The Monk is not that strong anymore, he won't be too powerful if we allow him a +6 or +9 in battle if he stacks these effects (Psyonic Blast is temporary and also Warhorse can be easily lost if defeated in Psychic Combat).
