Academy Tie

Thanks!

Why have the mods on Lorrir when you could have them on Soontir?

Why have the mods on Lorrir when you could have them on Soontir?

Because Lorrir also needs some love sometimes...

But yeah, I personaly prefer to use Lorrir without any upgrades, or maybe a hull ugrade from time to time.

Thats a good point, so what if i changed it up to this..

Soontir w/ ptl + Royal Guard+ Targeting computer

Howlrunner w/ squad leader

Lorrir

Academy Ties x2

Would squad leader be an effective upgrade on Howlrunner?

Howlrunner tend to be the premium target in a swarm, so she usually needs her action to survive longer.

Swarm tactics is usually the way to go so she can make one of the Academy Pilot shoot at PS8 and benefit from her ability before she die a horrible and painful death.

Im going to go out on a limb and say make a list you feel comfortable flying. If you haven't flown this list Id recommend practicing with it by running around a table a few times, finding some to scrim against or go onto vassal. Your local store meta may vary but it seems like the common lists these days involve decimators, yt1300, yt2400, and phantoms. So think of your list in regards to dealing with those. One other thing that is prevalent is rebel captive to cause you stress.

I think your big challenge is going to be dealing with phantoms but you might do fine if you can cover the decloak spots to block the phantom. The turreted ships will eat your ships up pretty fast potentially, but you have more dice to throw back so it might just be a race to blow each other up.

A few tips as a relatively new player to another new player. Dont worry about winning games at your first tournament. Instead focus on having a good time while playing your list competently (as in remember to move and shoot in the right order, declare actions when your supposed to etc). Make sure to observe the play styles of your opponents and ask them after the match for advice on flying your list. You will have much more fun, learn a lot more, and get to make more friends that way. Don't slow boat (you dont want to be "that guy" no one likes playing against), and dont beat yourself up over mistakes.

I watched a veteran player last weekend fly a firespray off the board, and I flew cracken off the board by setting my dial wrong. Different matches but we both moved on and when we were later matched up we had a wonderfully fun game where I was winning until the absolute last shot he fired blew up 2 of my ships via bad rolls on my part and his guy having ruthless. I honestly think that one match made his weekend even though his poor luck up until that roll placed him low in the lists for the tournament. One thing I learned from my first tournament experience was you can really make a big difference by placing the asteroids smartly and a lot of players don't seem to put nearly as much thought into that aspect of the game as they should.

Would squad leader be an effective upgrade on Howlrunner?

Not really. Take it out and go with something else like Swarm tactics, or perhaps even better would be a stealth/hull upgrade on Howlrunner. She'll always be your opponent's top priority to shoot at first...

With only 2 Academy to boost? I'm not so sure. I would probably go for one of the two Academy to:

-Prevent one more attack this round at PS1

-Raising my chance to actually destroy it this turn since he has 3 hull instead of the 4 of Howlrunner

-Removing one ship that could potentially block my move next turn

Once she has no ship to help, Howlrunner is just a regular Tie moving at PS8.

I just tried a very similar list today, and it worked very well:

Howlrunner+Stealth device
Academy Pilot
Soontir fel+ PTL, Shield upgrade, Hull upgrade, Royal guard title
Royal Guard interceptor(PS6 one), Shield upgrade, Hull upgrade, Royal guard title

Total:99
Optional: Swap the Stealth( on Howlrunner) or one Hull upgrade for Push the Limit(PTL) on the royal guard.

With this list I won against Jan Ors piloting a HWK and couple of those named stress B-wings
Did not loose a singe ship, anytime I saw that my ships might get fired at I evaded as action(only sometimes with the academy)
