Travis, Andrew, Lee, and Rob made top 4. Final table was Andrew Vs. Travis. Travis was our winner!

The best part about it is that everyone clams that the meta is only turret ships and phantoms. Travis list beat both to win the tourney! Congrats to him.

Wow, half of your top eight were small ship Rebel lists. I'm curious how large the tournament was?

To be fair, the Y-wings are 3 dice turret ships too. :P

This makes me happy. Y-s and B's are both amazing.

I like the mix of Ion and stress in that build, looks really fun.

Interesting! I just remembered that the list I ran in last year's local Store Championship was this (I took 2nd):

Gold Squadron w/ Ion turret

Gold Squadron w/ Ion turret

Blue Squadron w/ FCS, Ion Cannon

Blue Squadron w/ FCS, Ion Cannon

Very similar to the winning list at UGG this year.

22 people we had a good mix including tie swarm, multiple whisper/ deci builds, fat han, yt3700 and more.

Is it cuZ that 2 Y 2 b is good against the fat turrets? And also good at catching phantoms?

I'd have to say this is still part of the "turret meta". The guy who won a Store Championship with all A-wings is most impressive.

Time for some ruthlessness.

Well gj by him, but that doesn't mean the meta as a whole isn't turrets and phantoms. I mean 6 awings won a store championship, and you could make the argument that that proves it's "diverse" but if that were the case, then 6 awings could win again, but it won't. Believe it or not, some people just don't know how to fly phantoms and turret ships. They just use them because they're the strongest at the moment. But simplier more straight forward ships like bwings often win because they capitalize on that phantom hitting a rock. Or not understanding it needs to stay at range 3 of ion turrets. Or sitting right in front of 2 bwings so it can continue to shoot, when it should probably put an emphasis on just not getting shot and use more hit and run tactics etc.

People also run decimators like it in and of itself is a block of 4 small ships that just wants to joust an enemy. And then it gets pummled. There are many games from this season already, from store championships or other tournament final matches from the past couple of months where this is very clear. The streamed store championship from Atlanta showcased a dash and several decimators doing this. The meta is about finesse and leveraging all of the advantages this ships have. If you line up and fly at bwings, of course they're gonna look like the best thing ever because they are flying stat monsters.

I'm really not trying to down the guy. It was a good job by him to capitalize on his opponents etc. I'm just saying keep some perspective.

I'd like to express my appreciation of David running XXXZ in a display of pure balls. Turrets? Nah. Phantoms? Nope. Swarms? Screw you. Two rookies, Biggs and Cracken. Done and done.

If I had an applause gif I'd use it.

To be fair, the Y-wings are 3 dice turret ships too. :P

It really isn't. Ion Ys are both range and damage restricted, not to mention slow, not maneuverable, and packing no guaranteed defenses or post activation movements.

In other words, not fatties. Winning with them is also impressive, most impressive

Kudos to the rebel swarms proving we don't need to see YTs all the ******* time

With the exception of the A-Wing and E-Wing (which is admittedly surprising), every Rebel ship found its way into the top 8 of this tourney. That's awesome. Disappointed by the Imperial players whose lists lack all imagination =\

EDIT: Didn't see the Green squadron. So, somehow, only the E-Wing missed out! Very interesting.

You know there are as many double YT lists in the Top 8 as there are Imperials. We've got no clue what the rest of the Imperial lists looked like.

I was referring just to the Top 8 here :P of course we don't know what the other lists are.

The Imperials did bring two very different Phantom+Decimator builds. I'm more disappointed with the Imperial players that allowed the Rebels to dominate the tournament.

Oh, yes, certainly a ramming Decimator has to be played different from a Gunnered Decimator, just a bit disappointing that the only two Imperial lists in top 8 were the same ships. I didn't think I'd be saying it but I'm pretty impressed by the variety of Rebel builds in the top eight.

Now, if an Imperial could sneak a Defender or Lambda list into top 8 that'd be awesome.

Lol @ Draco's pic!

Gold Squadron Pilot + Ion Cannon Turret

Blue Squadron Pilot + Fire-Control System + Tactician

Blue Squadron Pilot + Fire-Control System + Tactician

I'm a big fan of the stress/ion combo and thus intrigued by this list :D

With the upcoming new stuff of S&V, what would you guys say about the following tweaks:

2x Gold + Ion Turret + R2

2x Blue + FCS + Flechette Cannon

Pros:

- Added Mobility for the Ys

- Bs induce stress regardless of range

- Bs ignore range 3 bonus

Cons:

- Flechette Cannons only inflict 1 dmg (instead of full dmg potential of regular attack)

- Bs attack needs to hit in order to induce stress

- Stress does not stack anymore

Changes worth it or rather fly with the initial list?

I love the approach of some folks. "Wow you won with that? Your opponents must have sucked." The incredulity of some people when they see something out of the ordinary.

Kudos to you and your players. A rebel control list taking the top spot. Love it.

It happens

It's simply a construct of the boards versus actuality. It is impossible to convey all the relevant information through text or even imagines because there is far too much subtext to accurately capture.

So when players cry bull, it's kind of sad to see they hold the belief that ships like the phantom are unbeatable except under incredibly specific conditions (I mean, why bother playing if the game is that broken?) but it's also understandable that we can't really 100% assuage them when we don't have access to the information surrounding their personal circumstances.

At the same time, let's all try to be less certain of what "must" be going on. If one claims that the only way to beat X or play Y well is to have inadequate opponents, it's just a short step from others claiming that X is only too powerful or Y too difficult to play because one is an inadequate player.

That's not what I meant, and I hope that it didn't come off that way. I found it interesting that half of the lists in the top 8 were 4-5 small ship Rebel lists when that hasn't been the trend lately. I was curious if it was a smaller tournament or maybe just didn't have a lot of the type of lists that we've seen do well at other store championships show up.

I won a 17 player (8 or 9 decimators)store tournament on Sunday with BBBZY. 2nd was 2xbounty and doom, 3rd was BXXZZZ.

Obi Wan Kenobi is not the rebel alliances' only hope.

Not at all. That was passively directed at another player who's been going through the boards dumping on peoples winning lists.

Personally I agree that the phantom is overpowered and FF needs to break their no errata policy in regards to it. But when I see people beating it with uncharacteristic lists I prefer to give that player a pat on the back rather then saying their opponents must have been unworthy or lazy. We should be applauding the players who use creativity and finesse to subvert the meta. My two cents.
