Magic Users and "The Gift"

A quick question for verification purposes:

Do spell casters, such as wizards, mentalists or cross class characters such as warlocks and illusionists need to choose "The Gift" as an advantage or do their spell-casting abilities come naturally as per their character class?

So hi there guys,
Sorry that I am coming in a little late here on the conversation but I thought I would add my own two cents. The current campaign I am in actually laid down a house rule where if you take a class that holds the archetype of “mystic” you get the gift advantage for free! For psychic’s we give out one free path, but that’s it. Everyone else who’s interested in magic has to pony up the CP though. It has not broken the game… yet. Our mage's "power level" is similar to those in previous campaigns that required mystics purchase the gift. So everything is still really balanced and none of the non-supernatural players are being overshadowed but I think that’s just because of how we play our characters. I’m sure this house rule could be abused horribly and you could make a character that could blow everyone sky high at level 1 with the additional CP but for us it worked out. Personally we weren’t expecting it to go so well, it was an experiment we were pretty sure would fail miserably but surprisingly it hasn't.
Short answer from me would be: yes it is required but we changed up the rules and turned out fine.
