Question on Capt Oicunn ability

The rules state if I run into another ship I lose my action and cannot shot the ship.

With his ability, I want "hit" another ship, so am I intentionally trying to run into ships and lose my action every time? This would also prevent me from firing at the ship I run in too.

Or am I missing something?

You are correct.

However, you can take the Dauntless title and still get your action. Take an Engine Upgrade too and boost away and shoot the ship you bumped into.

You would lose your action but the Dauntless title help you reclaim it.

Oicunn's PS is low enough that when you bump Wedge and hurt him, he'll fly away and then you get to shoot him!

My question is how do you pronounce his name... far more tricky than Chiraneau

Is is

Oik-un

O-ic-cun

or what?

Chiraneau is literally a French pronunciation. "Shiraneau"

Oicunn is debatable until Alex or Frank utters it in a recording. "Oisunn" or "Oikunn"

Dauntless will let you take your action, as well using Ysanne's free evade action and Push the Limit as your EPT (you can trigger push the limit whenever you make an action, which includes Ysanne. Even if you skip your action step, you will still get an action before combat starts.

As for not firing, you can shoot ships you bumped into during movement but you can't shoot ships you're in base contact with during combat

This is a very important distinction, because Oicuun's low PS lets him automatically damage things like phantoms before they move. Once they move, they probably won't be in base contact with him anymore, allowing him to shoot them.

As in: It's fun to get boinkn' with Oicun.

Just remember, though, that you can't boost to hit someone. If you would overlap someone a ship base, you can't do that action. It's just like Barrel Roll.

P.S. Not saying you don't know, but maybe someone on here forgot.

That's what daredevil is for!

Like Chiraneau, I go with a French-esque pronunciation for Oicunn as well - Wakoon .

You see i was wondering if their was a 'frenchness' to it.

Like how oiseau is 'waz - oh' for bird in french.

I just thought i'd sound like i'd lost it if i suggested

wazun as a pronounciation option :)

But arnt all imperial officers English?

But arnt all imperial officers English?

I'm not sure if the British Empire had much contact in the galaxy far, far away.

Any chance one of the creative team is french canadian and putting these names in or are established eu ones?

Oink-un

We all call him "piggy" over here, which is a much fonder moniker than "fattie"

(I know it's not the correct pronunciation)

You think you can't be French with an English accent?

Have you never seen Jean-Luc Picard? Or any of their countless adaptations of the Three Musketeers?

That's not quite right. Dauntless let's you do a free action after bumping a ship. But then you will get a stress token. Thus preventing you from doing any other actions. No free action from Ysanne, no Push the Limit.

If you do a green action into the bump with dauntless you lose the stress and can then use Ysanne or ptl

Thus preventing you from doing any other actions. No free action from Ysanne, no Push the Limit.

That's not completely true.

It would prevent you from taking a free action from Ysanne, but you can use PtL, just you end up with 2 stress, you can in fact using Dauntless, PtL and Experimental Interface, at which point you'd have done 3 actions and have 3 stress.

I meant either or (either use dauntless or bump and trigger your action off Isanne), not both

If you do a green action into the bump with dauntless you lose the stress and can then use Ysanne or ptl

Yeah, that seems alright. Because you get the stress from Dauntless during the "Execute Maneuver"-Phase and then remove it during "Check Pilot Stress".

PtL and EI both give you free actions. "While a ship has at least one stress token, it cannot execute red maneuvers or perform any actions (even free actions)". So according to that, PtL and EI do not stack.

So according to that, PtL and EI do not stack.

Yes they in fact do. Because the trigger for both is after performing an action, which is the same trigger for getting a stress.

Since you have the ability to decide what order you resolve effects with the same trigger/timing you can chose to take the free action from PtL or EI before you get the stress from either one. We've been through this on the rules form, and even had Frank's ruling on it via email.

So it looks like this...

Trigger Dauntless

Perform free action from Dauntless

*After Action* trigger

Trigger PtL

*After Action* trigger

Trigger Experimental Interface.

Gain stress from Dauntless

Gain stress from PtL

Gain stress from Experimental Interface.

Hmm.. that seems highly counterintuitive: I can see how multiple abilities trigger from the same event, but it would seem logical to first finish one ability before going on to the next, thus getting a stress token at the end of either one of those actions and then not being able to do any more.

But here I stand corrected. Thanks for clarifying that. It's always good to learn something ;)

Hmm.. that seems highly counterintuitive:

That was my reaction at first as well. I figured you had to finish the whole of Push the Limit, before you could go on to the next thing. But once Buhallin explained how he saw it, I saw the logic in it. Then we sent it off to Frank at FFG and he confirmed that it did work this way.
