Vehicle Combat - Crew Damage

So, I've been thinking (no!) - an effect of vehicle crit deals 10 strain to a droid, if present. I assume the authors here were thinking rather about an astromech in an X-wing than a droid inside let's say YT-1300.

What do you think about changing this crit effect into: a random crew member suffers 10 strain? - Bumps into a wall, a falling pipe hits him etc. How about expanding this and dealing actual Wound Damage?

After all, vehicle combat in SW (films) is modelled after WW2 dogfights when it was quite common to injure crew members.

No, it shouldn't happen every time. But perhaps ideas like this were floating around during Beta and were discarded for some reason?

Why not just use that as an optional use of a Triumph?

Though I'd run the numbers and make sure 10 strain/wounds is the number you want. Remeber that most character has a strain/wound threshold around 12. So assuming 3-4 soak a S10 hit will result in dishing out roughly half the character's threshold...

I remember seeing that the Crash Suit in Enter the Unknown can reduce by 1 any strain inflicted on a character as a result of his vehicle taking a Critical Hit. But I haven't found any mention in the rules about Critical Hits inflicting strain. Maybe an upcoming supplement will have rules for something like this?

Yeah, that was one of the pebbles that started my train of thoughts.

  1. It could also refer to potential Strain caused by advantages used for causing strain as part of a critical injury, even if that might seem odd... or any critical hit to a vehicle causes x strain ... hohum...?
