Ship Speed & Acceleration

By Ghost Dancer, in Star Wars: Armada

" After your ship fires, it must set its course and move. You establish your ship’s initial speed during setup , and you must continue to move at that speed until you reveal a navigate command. Your speed determines both how far you can move and how many times you can click the game's maneuver tool to adjust your course at each speed increment"

Ah well spotted. It does imply that the initial speed you set can be anything (up to its max speed), but it is too vague to confirm it either way. I guess this is just one more thing we'll have to wait for the rules to see how it will work.

I don't see a problem with speed 0. As others have said, in an objective game sitting at the edge of the board is unlikely to be effective, but stopping near an objective to hold it might be. Remember these ships can't turn around easily so stopping will be necessary to control specific areas, but that does leave the ship vulnerable to attack.

Is anybody else concerned that the movement... thing is a little ungainly and, once ships close on one another, might be difficult to place on a crowded board? I'm sure it's tested and fine, but there will inevitably be times where ship X is right where the range... thing is supposed to be.

oops, double post

I did think this, yep. I'm not sure how easy thats going to be to move around if the board gets crowded. Luckily there aren't tons of ships in a normal game, but still....i'm going to have to see how it works in the flesh, and then think of possible solutions if needed. I'm sure it wont be hard.

Just use the end of the measuring device to make your move if it's going to be tight. It's all going to be the same distance anyway, just as long as the measurement is accurate.

Rebel fleets can get away with this, but Imperial fleets... with Lord vader?

That's gonna stick in an Admiral's craw!
