thanks, that will

A couple of more options if they don't have the appropriate gear:

  • Assign a number of setback for the conditions...brrrrr!
  • Use the same chart as for fire, acid, corrosive atmospherer etc. on p. 214 and assign an appropriate amount of damage....f--- this, I'm going inside!
  • Use the vacuum rules without the ability to hold breath..."your tauntaun will freeze before the first marker!"

You could combine these with the ESP linked above. Use one or all of them, letting them accumulate over an interval (rounds, minutes, hours, etc.).

Isn't it -120 at night in hoth-- no set back...just death. Lol :P

First of all, assign setback dice for the general cold. Just below zero temperatures should warrant a single setback dice, generally cold (say -10 degrees Celcius) climates gets 2 setback dice, and really cold places like Hoth gets 3 setback dice.

The next step on the scale is something like Hoth at night, where it's too cold to reasonably expect someone to survive without shelter. Have the characters make Resilience checks at regular intervals - anything from every half hour to every couple of hours, depending on how horribly cold it is. Upgrade the difficulty once or twice. Failures causes wounds, Threat inflicts strain, and Despair means you fall down a crevasse or get frostbite.

Before your players head out in this freezing nightmare, have them gear up properly. Thermal cloaks and Adverse Environment armour removes setback dice for the relevan temperature. The heating system armour attachment downgrades Resilience checks to withstand cold. And suddenly the guy who took some ranks in Outdoorsman is the most valuable member of the team...

thanks, Krieger. that's even how I ran it :) this is a proud moment for me

New Jersey?

This is one of those little things I absolutely love about the attachment system. Swapping out heating and cooling units is no big thing, so a player can equip the system they need for the adventure.
