Championship A-Wing list

Honestly I've never faced Echo in a tournament. Again, always Whisper. I've faced her a few times in friendly play, usually as a dual phantom list with something like Dark Curse thrown in. And she's a nightmare. I have carried luck against her. I haven't played her with this list but it's be worth a shot. The last game I played against her I believe I had:

Garvin

Keyan

Jake w/VI

I don't remember the rest of the upgrades but we can guess I think. It ended with Echo vs. Jake, both had one hull, arc dodging for close to thirty minutes. I had final move and first shot but I just couldn't get my dice to work for me to seal the deal. She finally got me in arc and ended it.

But I do truly believe phantoms need to be nerfed. I have a lot of respect for the way FF handles inequalities in the ships through gentle nudges in later sets, but that doesn't work when one ship is so far ahead of the others. The **** thing just has all the toys. I'm not crazy about the four attack dice, I think it was a mistake but I can live with it. It's the merger of VI and ACD. Their point value together is exponential. MajorJuggler reckons it's worth 14 points rather then 5, which sounds pretty good. Personally I think the fact that it goes off after every single attack it what makes it. You get to have your cake and eat it too.

If you look at the generics it's not so bad, I actually enjoy seeing sigmas with stygium, that's more what FF was intending I think. Really the only way to bring something in line that's too far out is to nerf it. Take away the EPT slots, increase the cost of ACD or change the wording.

It's that matter of game balance, you shouldn't be able to be super offensive, super agile, and super evasive. My a wings and TIE F's suffer from low offense. YTs suffer from low evasion, as do Bs. X wings have low agility. The TIE D has low-ish agility. Every ship is supposed to have a drawback. The phantom should be easy to kill, it's a ship built around massive evasion and occasional powerful strikes. It's about choosing your moment and then pouncing and slipping back into the shadows. It was designed to be a high risk high reward ship. ACD removes the risk entirely and turns it into a super nimble, highly evasive battering ram.
