Star Wars games

I've been playing Alliance (with gfx mods) for the last four days. It's as wonderful as I remember....

I picked up X-Wing and TIE Fighter a while back. Definitely grabbing Rogue Squadron, and I'll be back for X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter.

They're not quite as magical as I remember (especially since I'm playing them on an Xbox controller), but they're as fun, if not moreso, now that I'm old enough to really appreciate the many little details.

Now if only they would release Rebellion.

So! It does work with all the graphics improving mods?!

Yes! I do get occasional crashes, but I can't say for sure if that's the result of the mods or just my system being a little... picky about what games I run. Also I had a few sessions where the textures for a number of the hanger objects got scrambled. In-flight stuff was totes fine though.

I haven't tried the widescreen hack, but the ship package and background upgrade both work fine. It's actually really neat since (unlike modern games) theres the tech library that seems intended to just give you a chance to admire the work the model and texture artists did. And doing so give you a chance to no only see these beautiful new models up close, but also see funny little cheats they did, like how the TIE pilots (since they are normally only viewable from a distance, head on, and at high speed) are actually 2D cardboard cutout looking guys.

Ghostofman, where did you get the GFX update, the only link I found was 404?

And it looks like they've created a new patch for it... interesting. Perhaps this fixes my crash issues. Looks like I will have to backup my pilot and reinstall...

Thanks. Now I just need to get a joystick. :)

I want to care, but can't...no Mac support :(

I gave up on timely Mac support and just Bootcamp into Windowz to game. It's easy and I get the best of both worlds.

I gave up on trying to do any sort of gaming on Windows via VM or Bootcamp. If they don’t support the Mac, then I can’t be bothered to care about them.

Outside of whatever I am required to do for work purposes, OggDude’s character generator is the first program I’ve ever used that I felt strongly enough about that it would cause me to install a Windows VM.

When was the last time you tried? VM is a terrible way to game I just use a strait re-boot to Windowz 7 and I've been playing high end games for years this way. For example I'm running Dragon Age Inq. at nearly Ultra on my IMac without any problems.

You still need a ligit copy of Windowz but if you have one try it again.

If it requires a reboot and Bootcamp, then I’m not interested. There’s not much on this planet that I can think of that would convince me to go that route. I have found one program that was sufficient to convince me to install it on a VM, but only the one so far.

They did.

Yessss! I've been wanting a new way to play Rebellion since my CD copy stopped working about 3 years ago. I'll grab it next week and maybe Galactic Battlegrounds. I don't have a joystick or money to buy one or I would grab the X-Wing games.

Bah! In the olden days one would finish X-Wing and TIE-Fighter with mouse and keyboard only! But maaan my sister hated when I played these games - I kept knocking (loudly) on the table with the mouse...

The 1998 update of TIE Fighter requires a joystick, apparently
