Coran and dash build what options to go with?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

I hear so many do well with Coran. I've used him couple times after the release if wave 4 and haven't done well as others seem to.

I tried running this the other night.

Dash

Ptl

Hlc

Outrider

Engine upgrade

Coran

Advanced Sensors

Ptl

R2-D2

First game I did very poorly.

Second game went a lot better

Especially after remembering to use Advanced sensors lol.

But I'm wondering

Should I maybe go with

Veteran instincts, and fire control systems in him instead?

Veteran instincts imo is nice, especially for phantoms and fel. Since Coran gets to move last and shoots first, but i find it hard to take off ptl, which I find very helpful to turtle up.

One poor decision doesn't take much to put Coran out of the game if he gets focus fires fired on.

As for dash I can't really think of anything else to take off

Maybe engine upgrade and put Leebo on, and use it only in emergency

What to you use and why?

I've seen some use lonewolf on dash but again ptl is very nice. I find it hard to make that switch.

I like to keep Coran close to dash to protect that blind spot, so again lonewolf in that case would be useless

Edit

I posted this under a different title in the squad builder section and thought maybe it best be under the general discussion tab

A lot of this build comes down to play style and preferences, but you need to make sure that what you're selecting works for you.

I prefer Lone Wolf/Recon Specialist on Dash, and Fire Control/Veteran Instincts on Corran. I've flip-flopped on who gets the Engine Upgrade, because it will certainly change how you fly. Usually it's Corran, so when I play I can have him get the heck out of Dodge after a double-tap so he can circle back, get his shields back to full and go for it.

For Dash and the donut-hole problem, when I run it this way, I just keep him moving and use the asteroids to my advantage. Make them chase you literally through the asteroids, so even if they catch up, they lose an action and potentially take a hit.

It also helps make those PTL'ed opponents fall behind, or play catch-up but lose the action.

The thing with that build, like I said above, is that your own way of flying has to go into it. There's probably 3-4 main loadouts I've seen, and they're all great, you just need to run the one that you enjoy the most, and don't fly against type. PTL/Kyle is going to put stress on you, so make sure Corran shoots the Rebel Captive before Dash, things like that.

Well I know a lot already of what your saying

I've used rebel captive against ptl dash with great success.

It's a major weakness alongside the donut hole

I'm just trying to figure how to run Coran mostly,.

I won our last tournament with dash, ptl, engine upgrade, Kyle, hlc, Outrider and proton torpedoes and three talas

In the build I'm using with Coran I have no Kyle and really felt the effects from that in my first game.

Takes time to adjust.

I've also used dash with Jan again with great success and have not lost to a phantom build yet.

I actually never really use ewing much and I hear people like Coran a lot.

Its one ship I'd like to get better at using.

So I am playing around with it some cause like anything, it's all about practice and finding that sweet spot

Like I already mentioned, my idea is to keep Coran close to dash for protection, so lone wolf may not be the best upgrade.

Plus I really like ptl to barrel roll and target lock or focus.

I find ptl on dash is really nice to help keep a offensive action and helps keep some distance between him and my opponents ships.

Having Coran or any higher ps ship is great for the rebel captive builds out there

Coran with ptl, advanced sensors and R2-D2 I find I'm missing that engine upgrade.

But getting two actions and clearing the stress plus gain a shield back is very nice

But then again veteran instincts and Engine upgrade is also very nice fir phantom and fel killers.

But loses ptl in the process, which I think is very nice to turtle up especially after the double tap.

I guess I'm kind of torn between ptl, advanced sensors and veteran instincts and Engine Upgrade

Which of the two would be more successful?

I have a few other builds that I'm use to but thinking of switching it up to a two ship build for next tournament so trying something different

And Coran is a pilot that I'd like to get better with.

Think I've only used him 3 times now.

Just have to find the right upgrades on him

I don't bother with the engine upgrade (because I don't own one) and use lone wolf and recon spec on dash and FCS, ptl, r2d2 and Hull on Corran. I'm so far undefeated, but only in 4 games, and not taken it to a tournament yet.
