Scum should be a new starter

By CrypticApathy, in X-Wing

They should make a new starter with just S&V with all the templetes and what not. Make it equal to what the main starter is. So someone can guy in to S&V without having to buy other ships they may not ever use if they choose to just stick with S&V.

In the scum starter how would you divide the two teams? Two players jump onto x wing and play without x wings? Or they play star wars with just one ship they recognize and a box full of upgrades to ships they don't own?

S&V just don't have the brand name recognition to form a starter set, unless you want to get players started with Boba (Which, admittedly, would be badass)

"Most wanted" is as close to a faction specific starter set as your going to get. And a pretty good one at that.

S&V doesn't work at all for a starter. As others mentioned, it's just one faction, so how do you work out the learn to play demo game? It's also a very different "Control" playstyle than the Rebels & Empire. The X-wing and TIE fighter are perfect for new players, they have all the options necessary to introduce a player without overloading them.

Add a trio of Tie Fighters and all of the dice, tokens, cards, damage deck, etc (maybe even add a new PS 6-7 pilot for the Ties) you get in the original X-Wing pack. Push the price to 65-75.

Add a new mission for Empire vs Scum: cops and robbers.

It probably wont attract new players who aren't familiar with much beyond X-Wings, TIEs, and the Falcon...but it would be a pretty good seller for newer and mid term layers to quickly expand an Empire list (A basic, this, and Aces...5 Ties and 2 Ints...nice 100 point list) and start a scum faction.

Double the price of the core set? Why not just buy a core set and the Most Wanted pack and call it a day? I don't really see the value of another pack that adds no new ships and gives only things found in the starter set new players are far more likely to buy anyway.

The core exists to attract new players. We are not the target audience for Core, Most Wanted is what is for us. Comes with three ships, is priced for three ships, gives you all the cards and dials to convert other ships. And if you don't have the other ships, you buy them. Would cost the same as if they were released as special Scum blisters except you get the Imperial cards too.

Most Wanted could have been a "complete primer for the Scum faction" complete with maneuver templates, damage deck, and dice. It wouldn't be a starter in that it is still all one sided but it could have provided an entry point to someone who is familiar with the game but has put off purchases.

Of course getting all of those template and cards would require taking out a few things. What's going to go? Well those redundant dials would be a great place to start as you already have dials for those models; I guess they wouldn't be the "Scum" dials so cutting the extra base tokens and pilot cards for non-Scum ships would happen as well. With those cuts you've probably made up for the additional stuff you are putting in.

less scum dials & more cardboard templates.... Worst idea ever. Since in sanctioned events you have to use scum dials its essential you get plenty in the most wanted pack.

Not gonna happen, move on.

I want an imperial only starter pack too then...oh and a bounce house and a pony!!

Depending on how it was set up, an imperial only starter could be interesting. Can I join you when you get your bounce house?

Actually, something like an Army Starter set would be cool, I think War-Machines/Hordes does this. It could be 2 TIEs, an Interceptor and an Advanced for the Imps, and for the Rebels a B-wing, A-wing, Y-Wing and maybe an X-wing. You'd still need the Core game but since most players get 2 Cores this would give you the option to just get 1 Core and one Army Starter, if you just wanted to focus on one faction. S&V wouldn't need one since they basically have it with MW.

If you really think about it.... This would have been a great starter kit. All three ships can be used by both factions.

When people are already complaining about the terrible injustice of having to pay for stuff they don't want from MW in order to get the stuff they do want from MW, I don't think "add more stuff to MW" is the way to go.

People know x-wings and tie fighters so it makes sense to keep using the starter pack as is.

Heck I'm a big fan of SW and I'd never heard of the scyk or the star viper.

The most wanted pack is great value including three ships and supplying the dials for six total plus the base cards is something they didn't have to do.

The starter is great value for money and that's part of the appeal, the last thing we want is £70 starters like GW make that only puts people off.

Make sure you take your shoes off...and you aren't allowed to jump higher than me.

Scum's its own faction.

Sometimes I think ffg reads the threads on the board and just laughs.
