These are a couple nexu i have been working on. Thought i would share my "so far" progress. Still isnt done, need to do some more shading and highlighting, especially on the tail, claws and teeth.
Thoughts on the blue one?
Looking to bring the red one up to a blazing orange, but need a secondary color for the spines and claws, dont think yellow/offwhite will work, or maybe it will. What do you think?
[Painting] First models in 7+ years, please don't laugh...
Is that a blue Chiss officer in the background?
As for the Nexu, it looks like a nice job. Not that I'm any sort of expert. IA was my first completed painting project.
Yeah, it's gonna be. Toying with weather or not he'll be a young Thrawn before he was a Grand Admiral or if he'll just be that rare Chiss in the Empire.
if you going for blazing orange, black for spines is a good contrast. adding gloss to the spines/claws against a matt miniature also makes them look good imo.
How did you paint them? did you dry brush or use a wash/quickshade?
Looking good either way. And making the officer a Chiss is a nice move, breaks up the doubles!
Good job!
they look nice.
Is that a blue Chiss officer in the background?
Forgive me for stealing this idea, I was already planning to start painting my Officers today and that is just too awesome.
Yes, I'm definitely going to have one blue-skinned Officer...he'll be the Elite one--he's Thrawn, afterall!
Those are completely fine looking. I like the Chiss officer. Nice touch and a great example of out-of-the-box thinking. Wash the red nexu generously with black or sepia wash and the drybrush it with orange. You can add an additional highlight layer with yellow or off-white to most exposed areas.
Unless the spikes are from a different material than the other Nexus' spikes, you can just use the off-white and wash it with sepia wash and highlight the edges with the same white.
Keep it up! Painted minis roll better. And that's a fact!
@Stilgod & Thereisnotry: It's not stealing, it's *collaboration*. I think it's is awesome that people noticed him back there in the first place, I didn't until after I uploaded the picture, he is soooo not ready to be shown off.
@Krankenstein: Thanks much. The red one will need more that just a wash and a drybrush to get him where I want him to be, but that sounds pretty close to the plan i have in my head. I'll try the same off-white I used for the blue one, see how it turns out.
It is true that painted minis roll better, that is a proven scientific fact (don't know where I heard that before, maybe someone posted something like that on the forums here...I wonder). Spose if any of my players want to mock the paint job, i can always use that nexu to munch off their faces....that'll show em.
