You would think that the Corrupter would be something that helped it out by guaranteeing first strike capability in all circumstances. Having never played the game I don't know how well it would keep things balanced, but it would match the Captain Convarion's reputation to come in hot, weapons flying.
Corrupter's ability
I was a bit surprised too, I was expecting some kind of direct firepower ability. The ability actually does give you better strike ability, but through bombers which doesn't feel too right to me sadly.
Shame, I really like Convarion and the Corrupter. That was a proper ruthless Imperial Officer!
Just so that we can all see it within the thread:
Seems like a lot of points to spend for an ability that you won't activate that frequently in a match, IMO.

I disagree. I think that bombers are going to be a premier way of taking out enemy capital ships. (That's what they're for, after all). Anything that gets them to their target faster will be quite valuable.
I'm certainly thinking about making Victories and TIE Bombers the center piece of my fleet, and so the Corrupter is probably going to be my flagship.

Yes! my thoughts exactly. from what I have seen of our fighter squads TIE Bombers and Interceptors have the ability to bomb targets...I plan on making a lot of bombing runs

I might be mistaken, but I wouldn't think that TIE Interceptors would be able to make bombing runs.
OH!
I just had a thought. I could categorize fighter units by ability in the Wiki !
Edit: hrm. it looks like I (or someone else) already had that idea and implemented it.

I wouldn't think Interceptors could make bombing runs either but look closely at the card in imperial squadron spoiller picture

I'm looking at it, and I see two abilities - Swarm and something else. I can't read what that something else is, but it doesn't look like it says 'Bomber'.
It looks like it says 'Counter', and then a symbol of some sort. The A-Wing also has that same text, whatever it is.

actually I apologize, what I seen was the symbol for half damage tokens....."face palm" I'm sorry thought we had another fighter that could bomb....But yes I will run bombers most definitely

you are right, I'm sorry I was looking at something totally different

Report to the ISB for re-education at once.
I suspect TIE/A will be able to bomb as well, probably not quite as effectively as TIE/sa but they do have ordance capability after all, where TIE/Ln and TIE/In rely solely on their lasers.

What is the accepted abbreviation for TIE Advanced? TIE/X? TIE/A?
and is the /sa the bomber?

That's fair, my interpretation of imperial fighters are the default "screen the guns what kill things good", though I've been planning on throwing in a single bomber squad to act as either a flank or distraction.
I just feel that you'll get one maybe two uses out of Corrupter's ability in a game, as if you're moving your bombers far enough away to make the ability be used, you'll probably not be getting close enough to issue a squadron command with Corrupter again for a bit. Unless you're following your squadrons to close range with Corrupter, but then you've got to calculate how quickly you're expecting to bring the target down so that you can accurately predict when to enter Squadron commands... It seems like a lot to coordinate to get one extra point of movement off bombers that can already move speed 4 anyway.

sa stands for surface assault (something that never comes up in this game nor x-wing).
In = Interceptor
Ln = Line (Fighter)
The advance is more difficult as it could be TIE/x1 (up to TIE/x6) or TIE/ad for Advance or TIE/A for Avenger (more popular name after the thing was finally finalized)
I can't really tell the ratio of the distance values compared to the range values (seems like 1 & 2 are the short, 3 is the medium, and 4 & 5 are the long), but the whole 5 distances do make up the entirety of the ruler
If I understand this correctly,
1.) The Corrupter activates, revealing a squadron command
2. Immediately after revealing its command, you activate 3 Bomber Squadrons at range black and blue
3.) These bombers move the entire length of the range ruler
4.) Because of the Squadron command, these bombers can now also attack a distance of 1, which is 25% of the ruler
5.) Each Bomber squadron tosses 1 black die equivalent to the black die of a capital ship (bomber rule), or one blue and what I think is a black die against squadrons
6) The Victory has not even attacked yet
Seems the Squadron command, if not properly blocked by the opponent, can be pretty dang painful. At long range, it sure as hell beats adding an extra red die.
The title essentially gives you an extra 25% of the range ruler, making the command either more flexible (bombers from further away can get in range) or much easier to use as alpha strike that fires beyond the range of capital ships. Could be very decent for its price, if the bombers are properly costed to be expendable
The fact that the Victory has such a high command value seems more of an incentive than a demerit, since a player fielding bombers is going to want to get as much as possible out of the command when it comes around
Edited by ficklegreendiceI think the corruptur is gonna be one of those ship cards a lot of people are gonna just past by. But then we're gonna have that one guy who see's it and next thing you know we got a real live Grand Admiral Thrawn on our hands and the rebels are gonna be sent running to the hills lol

4 with the Expanded Hanger bays upgrade them add in Major Rrymer and you can attack at medium range also.

It's going to be a wild ride
Is there a mission where you scatter the objectives around and bombers could possibly pick them up? Man i might have to make the Corrupter the center piece for the fleet now that I think about all those scenarios where you could use speedy bombers for more than just bombing runs. Because you know the rebels are gonna try and reenact the attack on the 2nd Death Star so while they send swarms of fighters after your slowly retreating capital ships drawing them more and more away from their support your own Bombers had enough time to hit Mc'D's drive though before they launch their attack. Plus if you can use bombers to pick up objectives oh man the possibilities just hit me...
I doubt they'd let Squadrons pick up objectives, they are too maneuverable, and too expendable. In the objectives we've seen (and 3 more that are spoiled somewhere on this forum), it's always been Caps that can hold/pick-up objectives.
Even so the Corrupter is pretty awesome. Throw your bombers into the rear arc of an enemy cap and shoot off a few hits.
The Corrupter's ability is amazing. Combined with Major Rhymer, you and essentially use your bombers to attack a target two range rulers away (Activate squadron at medium range, travel full length of ruler, and then attack at medium range). That is a massive area of control.
It really alters the fleet design aspect for the rebels. Bring too few fighters, and your opponent can drop 4 bombers outside your fighter screen. (Or a better 3 bombers and 1 Interceptor to engage the opponents fighter screen).
3 blue and 3 black dice against a single shield facing. Boom goes the corvette / Neb B before they are even in range of the Vic.
Also since the game is played over the course of 6 rounds all you have to do is activate and use it twice and it's already made an impact for one third of the game which is actually pretty relevant. A lot of abilities in X-wing only come up two or three times in a game it seems however designing your fleet to access those abilities more often would be a huge advantage.

Hrm, interesting. It says 'Bomber' but not specifically TIE Bomber.
Do they intend to release other 'Bomber' type craft? If so, which ones?
Scimitar?
Assault Gunboat? (YES PLEASE)
TIE Defender? ...more of a space superiority craft in my opinion -although you can use it to go on bombing runs. A bit too limited a payload though, I think.
Or am I dreaming again? Hehe.

It most certainly will be. Geeze can't wait...

Makes me wonder if the title 'Corrupter' is less suitable than 'Obliterator'. Hehe.
