This game has me pumped and wondering..

By BigNorthMxO, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny Beginner Game

Currently I plan to run this with a small group of 3 to 4 people. The group already has come up with idea for who they want to be, it is great. I have a base line for how I want to run it.

My group will take place a few years before Yavin 4/Luke leaving Tatooine. One member won't be a force user, a Gand bounty hunter, I agreed to this because it added some flavor to the group. One person wants to be a Chiss, and another a Wookiee.

This will be the Wookiee player first time playing a RPG and she has come up with a great backstory for herself. Chiss will end up somehow knowing the Gand in advance most likely. Then I have one player who wants to be a Human and he is already being picked on because he is the only human. on board the ship they will have.

They Asked to start off with a YT-2300, I agreed but they have 2 years game time to try and pay off the difference before a Hutt they owe the money to puts a bounty on their head.

Went and made their main villain a Inquisitor.. which as I made him got me wondering is we may see a Dark Side Core book based around Working for the Empire? I know I am day dreaming here but here is my thoughts on careers maybe.

Class thoughts are Inquisitor, Dark jedi, Dark Trooper, and so on. I honestly hope we get a core book at some point with the Idea of working for the Empire!

I'm going to be THAT GUY... you know, the nay-sayer at the back. I doubt we'll be seeing any core (or even splat) books based around being the evil villains (I'm happy to be wrong though). It just doesn't seem to fit with FFG's ethos for SW. WotC were a different matter, possibly due to their handle on D&D and the ramifications of playing across such a broad moral spectrum. That said, it seems fairly easy to flip the careers in Age of Rebellion to fit Imperial characters, so maybe it'll be feasible to do the same with F&D core careers. I can't comment on the content of the F&D beta because I was too late to the party. By the time I got round to even thinking about getting hold of it, all the updates had been released and it seemed that every line in the book had been tweaked/drastically changed/dropped altogether. That said, I too am pumped for the new core set and my players can't wait to roll up some Jedi!

Does the gand get picked on because he is the only gand? Or the chiss?

"Dark" characters can be done now as it just a matter of semantics. I'm sure we'll see an Imperial book at some point just to flesh them out, much like the regional books we've seen. Probably even a dark force book but that would be farther down the line being that the F&D core hasn't even released yet.

This stuff seems to come up with surprising regularity.

No, we almost certainly will not get a 'play as the Empire' book. Yes, we might get an Imperial sourcebook detailing it in more depth, but for the most part all the fluff is out there anyway and we have most of the ships and NPC stats already.

None of the F&D careers are meant to be exclusively 'dark' or 'light'. What exactly would you expect to see in a 'dark jedi' career that couldn't be done with something like the Aggressor specialisation?

Likewise, none of the careers or specs in AOR specify a particular organisation. There is pretty much no mechanical difference between an Imperial pilot or commander than an Alliance one. How exactly would you expect an Imperial Agent would differ from any other Spy character?

Gand is not picked on by the other player(he 'owns' the ship story wise) and no one wants to be kicked off their ride plus when NPC deal with him normally there is a Wookiee a foot or two away...

For the Chiss our Human player likes to pick on him. The Chiss just gives him a glare with his red eyes and calls the human uncivilized.

Clam down. Sorry if this book(well starter set right now) has me pumped... but Honestly I heard the same thing about the 40k rpg line.. All you needed was a small change in minor skills and talents and boom you have 'evil' space marines and humans... will they Released Black Crusade even tho the Swap to Chaos would be easy from the other books.

FFG is great at coming up with ways most of us would think of, Yeah, i'd doubt they would do a dark jedi call, they would come with way better Ideas than myself :P Just never say never. I did read someone claim FFG is only doing 3 main core books for the Star Wars RPG line but have yet to see any proof that backed that statement up.

Some slightly more direct proof; from the original EotE announcement and a news post going into more detail on the plans for the product line:

Pretty much as been said, intention was always the three cores that focus on the three key elements of the world/system. Could it change in the future? Maybe. But it's more likely they'll just push out era supplements some time in the far-off future when the career supplement well is dried up.

Your google fu is strong! I was looking for this but couldn't find it, so had to settle for the wiki.

3 planned, So it sounds unlikely there will be another but a tiny chance mayne. One can only plan so far ahead right. *holding out hope* But who knows how the contact then have with Lucas Art/Disney written. I just know I love FFG rpg lines. I kind wish they could get the rights to make a Mass Effect table top RPG...

More than likely there will only be the 3 core books mainly because that has been their announced plans for a while, but from what we are already seeing in the current and upcoming supplement books that an Imperial Source Book (or Books) is likely to already be part of the plan. We have Sons of Fortune already and are just waiting for Lords of Nal Hutta to drop for EotE. Now if you are looking for something more specific to Imperial Force Users that would probably be a supplement / source book released for FnD. I would also suspect that AOR will be getting a more Imperial Based Book set around the Spy Career.

Sounds more to me you just have to add a little dressing to give them that Imperial flavour, no need for some specifically Imperial material just a little seasoning and perusal of wookiepedia to make them that bit more a part of the Empire.

Speaking of which what backup does this Inquisitor have?

You could just sic a recurring ISB Agent and have just a fearsome a nemesis so I was wondering why an Inquisitor?

I am starting them off with a Mentor(due to back story they wanted). So the Inquisitor has been trying to capture or kill their Mentor, a ex-jedi knight that was able to avoid order 66 due to the fact he was a prisoner of the CoIS.

As for his back up, well from what I understand most imperial Forces have to follow their orders, big part due to the fact the Inquisitor are directly under Vader.

On the Vader topic are their any official rules for Vader currently or a good set of player made rules? I am thinking of having my players run into Vader by chance at some point and turn it into a run as they fight scenario from him. Right now I just plan to work out rules best I can for him.

Only thing official was in the "Rescue at Glare Peak" adventure, where it basically said to handle him narratively. Basically

once he would catch up to the players, it would be the end of the line and they were captured and hauled off to be interrogated. If they decided to foolishly take him on, it was Vader busting out his saber and slicing them down with no issue

.

Vader would have some crazy stats, a ridiculous number of Force Die (4-5, easily; maybe even up to 6), and would basically slaughter the PCs if you tried using an as accurate version as possible. And this is ignoring that he's usually accompanied by a squad of stormtroopers, usually his own elite squad which are a great deal better than the average troopers.

My suggestion is, if you've got to have him, stick to the narrative approach. If you've got to have it so he's doing dice rolls, and decide not to drop his power in some way, keep in mind he will likely get a player killed, even if you don't intend him to.

Anything with stats can be killed. Just ask Chewbacca about that moon coming too close to the planet he was on. Ask Lando why Lobot told him that some very important people were meeting him in a particular room on Cloud City, and then they walked out with his data pad, the keys to his shuttle, and all his other worldly possessions.

So, the core Star Wars characters like Luke and Vader? They should never, ever have stats. If used at all, they should primarily be seen or heard from a distance, but not encountered directly, and not even interacted with directly. If they are interacted with directly, then it should be via the holonet, or some other remote method.

Thank you very much! I think when/if I do have a encounter I will use the narrative approach! A few of the players would be stubborn enough to try and face him.

See my group likes the Idea of some interaction with the Main cast of heroes and Villains. Like once my store goes past Yavin 4 and if they decide they want to help the rebels they may have a chance to bump into luke or Han for a second. nothing that effects the Main story in the least.

So long as you can keep that a purely narrative interaction, I don’t see any problems there.

So, I agree with the above comments that we probably won’t see any books from FFG that specifically deal with dark siders.

But that doesn’t mean that you can’t read books from other sources, and gain a lot of information and ideas about how you could approach role-playing this issue. Feel free to go to amazon.com and type in the words “star wars sith” and search in the Books category. Pay special attention to the “Book of Sith” by Daniel Wallace, and “Imperial Handbook”, also by Daniel Wallace.

I'll second Book of Sith. My friend let me bum his copy and it is great for drumming up ideas of a dark side campaign. I've been meaning to get my own copy in case I want to reread it.

You could go with a YT-2400 for the starting ship because they've got an X-Wing miniature for it and I just saw these deck plans the other day outer on the interwebs.

Just a thought if they aren't so married to the YT-2300.

Opps I did say YT-2300, meant YT-2400. my derp. that is a bit different from the plans I found but still good ones, it seems like the YT-2400 can be customized inside from all the plans i found from older 'offical' sources..

I just happened to find out about the Book of Sith the day before you posted this, Plan to order that along with the Path of the Jedi and the bounty hunter one.
