Extropias "Historical" Battles and Scenarios

By Extropia, in Star Wars: Armada

So, i've started doing some research into battles from the Civil War era that I can recreate for my FLGS and Convention games. At the moment i'm just going through looking at ones that would be suitable by size (no Endor sadly!), ships involved (suitable capitals on each side, or ones that i think will eventually come out from either FFG or Shapeways), era (Civil War or slightly before/after) and fairness (many of them are like....10 ISDs vs a Neb B and 9 fighters, or something).

Initially i'm just going to trawl through EVERY known battle from the Civil War, and pick out ones that might work. Then i'll start doing the actual work.

This thread will be where i collect my lists, ramblings and eventually actual scenarios :)

So far, after first round of culling. Years 1BBY until 11 ABY.

I'll be culling more of these next up to get to a more workable number nd picking the ones that look most interesting for the first round :)

Still sorting things, narrowing down the ones I want to concentrate on initially. Nothing much to see here just yet!

Wave 1 suitable battles:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Junction (no known force composition....realistically would involve ISD's, but put here for now)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Kothlis (If i swap the ISD for a VSD, it is actually absolutely perfect for wave 1/core set!)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Talasea (small skirmish, but could actually lead to a fun scenario)

Wave 2+ Suitable:

http://starwars.wiki...ttle_of_Turkana (probably too big anyway)

As you might expect, most battles involve ISDs...i expected this, but the percentage is even higher than i thought. So i have the option of either changing some around, or waiting.

Ideally for these i want to keep the forces as "historical" as possible, but some liberties will have to be taken. If nothing else, if i don't we'll basically never see GSDs or Assault Frigate mkII's, and there's virtually no battles even using VSDs.

So, first off will likely be the Battle of Kothlis. Thisinvolves a Rebel Frigate and Corvette, with a heavy fighter presence, attempting to capture critical data then ensure the Corvette escapes from the Star Destroyer.

This is supposed to be an ISD, which wont happen initially of course, so i'll be playing around. The main theme is that the Rebels should be heavily outgunned and be forced to concentrate on escaping, rather than slugging it out.

This is awesome. I really think the asst!etrical battles are much more engaging than 300 point slugfest (even with objectives).

Thanks! I find asymmetrical scenarios can be very fun. They need people to set aside their normal ideas of "winning and losing", but if you can do that they lead to some of the best games you can get.

Armada should lend itself really well to this....it should be great for the Rebels to really feel desperate and up against the wall, while the Imperials try to nail down those frustrating and slippery Rebels.

Great work Extropia!

We're gonna gonna see a lot of ISD's because the Empire had something to the tune of 25,000 of them and was the go to ship for when ever something came up. But that doesn't mean we can't sub in the Victories and stuff until the Imp SD shows up in the game.

Agreed. +1

This forum is amazing, we're generating a huge amount of resources for Armada -the game hasn't even landed yet! :D

The objective part of the game really adds to the narrative potential of Armada. I think there is a lot of opportunity to create a real story driven experience if you want to. Or just crush Rebel scum, either way.

Noting whats in the core and wave one, there is great potential for a overarching narative that coincides with the timeline of the war.

Initial release is set from before and up to Battle of Yavin, with each wave bringing ships that were introduced to the forces later in the war.
