March release date?

By MaverickNZ, in Star Wars: Armada

So some good news here. I was in my local store this morning and the owner looked up her distributor and shows all sets in the warehouse. I don't know how much stock to put into this, but she said that whatever I ordered through her would be there by next Tuesday at the latest O.o

Hate to say it, but I think she might have some wrong intel there. The upcoming page would have updated for shipping.

I tend to agree, but as I see it there are two possibilities:

1) Her suppliers are having the same issue some of our forum members have experienced, and are displaying "available" based on outdated projected information.

2) FFG has been holding out on us and is planing a surprise release this weekend. Product is sitting in warehouses as we speak (which is what her supplier has told her) and we will all be getting boxed happiness within the next few days.

I may well be proven wrong, but I'm not going to complain if it turns out to be the later.

Pun intended? ;)

Honestly, I think the release is right Aron the corner, given forwnsicus' review copy of the game. You only send those out right before release, and if I remember correvtly, he said there are store demos this week or next.

Why is t still on the boat? Because FFG didn't know if it would be unloaded in time.

I used to work in the sales department of a beverage distributor, and this kind of thing happened to us frequently. Limited release products would show in our system as available while we were still building sufficient inventory for a wide release or we would have everything and just hold out because we were waiting on a mandated national or regional launch date for a new product.

Honestly, it could very well be in her supplier's warehouse - but if it isn't in enough warehouses for FFG's nationwide launch it doesn't really mean much yet.

Got a message from Amazon this morning saying my pre-order for Armada was delayed til April, and they needed me to 'approve' this delay, something along those lines.

This after I, quite by chance, saw it as 'Scheduled to be delivered in 2 days' last week.. Seems these things are all over the place.

Today, Heidelberger Spieleverlag, FFG's main distributor in Germany, announced that Star Wars: Armada will be available by mid-March in Germany .

On its official webpage the publisher tells us the following:

The armada arrives. Soon!

Star Wars: Armada base game is coming!

Slip into the role of a commander or a rebel admiral, assemble a mighty fleet and destroy the enemy! The Star Wars: Armada Miniatures Game will be available in German version from mid-March. Simultaneously with the English version. Are you ready for it?

This is as official as it gets. This means that Armada will be available in Germany in German and English version from mid-March onwards. I don't know what it means for the US release considering the whole delay by the protests. This would suggest that the German release of the game might happen before the US release. On the other hand, a forum post by Heidelberger community staff from February 19th states that Heidelberger Spieleverlag would have to wait with such an announcement until the US release was rescheduled, in order to release the game simultaneously worldwide (just like they do it every time with the wave releases for X-Wing ).

Anyway, this is big news, isn't it? I am excited! :D

(also, sorry for my English but I don't post to international forums very often)

that gives us in the states hope if they are still in the mindset of a united worldwide launch. i hope it does mean we are within the final two weeks

Lately FFG products have been released overseas ahead of the US release.

With news like this, you should post more! And your English is much better than my German, so well done :D

So, there's no way Wave 1 is going to release with the Core at this point, right? So I should probably split my pre-orders up?

WHY ON EARTH would you use lucky post #111 to jinx us with this?!? :P The honest truth is none of us knows, particularly if the game suddenly launches over the next week and a half with no real warning. Splitting your preorder may not be a bad idea one way or the other, but your guess is as good as any of ours. Unless you secretly work for FFG... TELL US WHAT YOU KNOW!!!

My FLGS thinks Wave 1 is coming with the core set. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

With CobaltWraith 's news about his store's launch party, and this buzz coming from Germany, I'm certainly starting to waver on my resolve that we won't see this game 'till April. Also, it would highlight how the Upcoming page is quite unreliable.

Argh! I'm not sure how to feel about this game coming out so soon! I'm going to be away from home (and games) for the second half of March, with no opportunity to play.

Ha ha, sounds like April was more of a hope so than a think so vote ;) Called a few more stores in the area to see if everyones info lined up. Two stores had no idea, one said March, and Miniature Market said by mid March. Take this info how you will.

People keep saying the Upcoming page is unreliable.. but has a game ever been released while the page said it was still at the Printers? I can't remember it ever happening, and I own a lot of FFG games.

Not my field of expertise. Maybe that's where the bulk is but enough supplies have made it out for a release? Seem to work for Microsoft, ha ha.

It's unreliable because none of the stages really mean anything as far as a real time-table. Things have gone from At the Printers to On the Boat to Shipping in 2 weeks time. Other product sits on the boat for 3 months (even before the port strikes).

I'd say if the game arrives next week, then it will have to be considered unreliable. I have only recently started paying attention, and the timetables that the Upcoming page suggests are, more often than not, optimistic.

While Wave 1 is listed as being 'at the printer', the core set has been 'On the Boat' since Feb 12. I haven't seen the Boat take less than 8 weeks yet, and 8 weeks would have it here on April 8. Then there's still the distribution stage from port to store. Also, there's whatever effect the port slowdown may have.

There was an irregularity that happened with Imperial Assault, which had it arriving in Europe before here, but I don't know the details of that.

I'm falling in line with Mikael on this issue everywhere it seems. I still think that we are waiting until April, although I am much more optimistic now than I when I was leaning towards April "if we're lucky," in doom and gloom fashion.

The March release seems to be getting some buzz, and it could be a situation of where there's smoke, there's fire. Especially with the extreme confidence of that one supplier Cobalt mentioned. I think FFG may be pushing to meet the Q1 thing, moreso considering that the simultaneous release of Wave 1 seems all but abandoned. I would love to be wrong and get it this month... but if that is the case, I think that in terms of the upcoming page, Armada's lengthy stay at the printers included a lot more action than it would seem.

It may make the page more "unreliable," but I think that if we have Armada in the month of March, they were likely shipping some inventory in stages well before the status was ever updated.

I have additional news. You may get tired of me doing that :P The owner of my FLGS got on the phone with her supplier today to confirm information on the release date. The warehouse she called said that they have product and are waiting on the okay to ship it. I really should have had her clarify if they have the core only or everything, but the implication sounded like they have wave 1 as well. She then called FFG who confirmed to her over the phone that barring any absolute disasters (damaged shipments, holdups by customs on the last shipments, etc.), everyone should have sellable product no later than the end of March! Subsequently my store is still planning an event on the 14th (if any of us have the game yet) and an official release party on the 28th.

Well it seems FFG is deciding to be super sneaky with their status'. Sounds good to me.

That is good news! I hope its proves true!

On one hand I'm hoping that there's a bit of time between the core release and the expansion: my credit is getting killed between this game and X-Wing. More time to wait means more time for me to save for more stuff!

On the other hand, I'm just dying to paint my fleet. Those cute little CR-90's and Nebulon-B's are just begging for some custom colours. :3~

The warehouse she called said that they have product ...

Do you have the exact adress of that warehouse? :D
