Swarms?

By Oxymandias, in X-Wing

How are the swarms doing after Wave 5 entered the game?

I've not seen many in my local meta. I've flown a swarm at casual X-Wing game nights/weekend days at the FLGS to middling success, but other than myself, I've not really seen much of anyone fly swarms for months.

Swarms do still exist but they require the player to really know how to fly them.

With Engine Han, Engine Decimator, and Super Dash you need to know how to get them in arc.

Against Echo/Whisper you need to know how to set traps, block decloaks, use asteroid placement to your advantag, and cover as much space as possible to get shots in.

i fly one. it has become very tricky to do well. i can take out decimators easily, but paired with phantoms it becomes extremely difficult. Dash himself i have less of a problem with, but when he is paired with an e-wing it becomes difficult. basically, its two ship lists that are killing me. its not quite an auto-lose, but if you are playing a good opponent its a major uphill battle.

I used to fly swarms, but haven't gotten a lot of games in lately and am not sure I have the skills to run a swarm against the new ships... Would be a fun challenge though if I could get some more practice!

I play a sigma swarm (Sigma sq. + 5Ties in formation) on Vassal, because it's increasingly difficult to play one IRL. Untimed matches and easier movement make it a lot easier to play online. I'm actually in the process of writing a guide on how I play it, maybe it helps swarm players.
