Critical thinking - Defender/Advanced

By Papamambo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm looking to run this list at our next league night. We've okayed proxies for this one night so people can get a handle on how the new cards play without being on Vassal. Without further ado I present to you my list. Suggestions would be helpful.

TIE ADVANCED: · Maarek Stele (27)

Marksmanship (3)

Engine Upgrade (4)

TIE/x1 (0)

Advanced Targeting Computer (5)

TIE DEFENDER: · Rexler Brath (37)

Push The Limit (3)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Engine Upgrade (4)

TIE FIGHTER: Academy Pilot (12)

98 points leaving me initiative most likely. I like Rex with Push, allowing him to boost or barrel roll and always taking a Focus to use his ability. Maarek is a crit dealing machine with the Advanced Targeting Computer and Marksmanship. I would consider swapping Push on Rex for Outmaneuver maybe, or perhaps Predator, just for the fact that there isn't a ton of green on the Defender dial. The Academy is my blocker. I was Considering throwing a Targeting Computer on it, but I feel the Initiative bid might be more important

Thoughts?

I think marksmanship on Steele is overkill. Predator/Lone Wolf seems tailor made for the Advanced TC and in a 2/3 ship list Lone Wolf is huge on a 3 def ship. It would also let you bump up to Vader, with only a 1pt initiative bid though, but Vader with the ATC, Lone Wolf and EU is so money it's crazy.

Agreed. The odds of getting two criticals through isn't enough to tempt me to spend points on it. For someone like Kath Scarlett, who actively wants you to cancel critical hits from her, maybe, but not for Stele.

I'd either use his pilot ability for Veteran Instincts (higher skill means more able to get target locks and better able to take advantage of his engine upgrade), or predator (so you won't miss the target lock you can't spend).

Rexler is good, but I'd be concerned about voluntarily taking stress on a defender. Yes, you can clear it with a straight then boost, but you don't want to be tied to a straight every turn, even with the option of boosting.

Swap both EPTs to Predator and I'd say you're golden.

This is what I have been running as far as Defender Advanced
