Opinions on some unconventional Rebel squad lists

By Algetzz, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello everyone, long time reader, first time posting. I have a couple rather unconventional Rebel squad lists that I wanted to share with the community. I tend to shy pretty far away from the meta so let me know how you think they'll hold up.

Squad 1: "X Aces" 99 pts

  • Wes Janson with Vet. Instincts- 30 pts
  • Wedge Antilles with Opportunist, R2-D6, and Outmaneuver- 37 pts
  • Etahn A'baht- 32 pts

This squad is rather ludicrously offensive but its intended to be centered on the VI-Wes/Opp.-Wedge combo. Threw Etahn in there for the maneuverability and power of the E-Wing; not sold on keeping him here. Considering switching him out for Biggs "Biggles" Darklighter

Squad 2: "Not-Dash" 99 pts

  • Wild Space Fringer with Outrider and Heavy Laser Cannon- 42 pts
  • Roark Garnet with Moldy Crow, Recon Specialist, and Blaster Turret- 29 pts
  • "Dutch" Vander with Ion Cannon- 28 pts

Of the 2 this is probably the better list. It's my attempt to round out the concept of "Fat-Dash" concepts and I have had some pretty great success with it. Roark can really hold his own with support from Dutch and makes that poor little Fringer a whopping 12 PS at combat.

Squad 1 has a problem - R2-D6

"You cannot equip this upgrade if you already have a 'ept' upgrade icon or if your Pilot skill value is 2 or lower."

So, no double EPT for Wedge unfortunately.

As far as the 1st list goes, losing the droid and illegal ept means you can put wingman on etahn so you're always getting that extra die and a crit. You can also give Janson the stress bot so they are actionless and stressed.

Oops, that's embarrassing! I have this nasty habit of only reading the parts I WANT to see. Oh well, that squad is mostly just me trying to make Wedge hit as hard as possible. It already depends on HUGELY successful first combat turn (and subsequent turns after to make up for a generally poor defense) and executing maneuvers perfectly.

What did you guys think of the second list? I really like how it turned out and I am excited for some feedback.

I cooked up a similar list to #2. I have yet to run it. I was put a tactical jammer on the fringer, mainly because an iniative bid is useless to me with that list.
