I'm watching the demo videos from Gencon and I see them playing on what appears to be an included board with the base game. [deployment zones are visible, etc] Is there any confirmation? I've looked through the 'included components' but saw nothing of a map. I've never played X-wing, and am very new to FF gaming, so please be gentle.

Nope, that I beleve is just a PR board made for demonstration purposes im afraid.

There are several places that you can buy gaming boards from - 3x3 ones for X-Wing, and Armada is supposed to be 3x6. (Quoted from one of the FFG guys at Gencon) But having said that, there was also a comment in a different video about that board in particular though being a 4x6 with a "deployment area" (which makes it 1/2 a foot wider on either side) has me waiting until I see the final rules before ordering though incase it needs to be a 4x6

I recall the FF demoer in one video describing it as a 'tournament' board. Good call on waiting it out before ordering. thanks!

I don't think we'll see anything of that sort included in the game.

However, I do think that if you're interested in galactic astrocartography, one of the best books that I own is the Essential Atlas , which is absolutely phenomenal, and was the basis of my online Star Wars nav computer [/shameless plug] .

If you want inspiration on a campaign system, check out DagobahDave 's Unofficial X-Wing Galactic Campaign (UXGC) . He uses an abstract portion of a map to make it more 'gamey'.

I think when his current season wraps up, he and I are going to work on a follow-up season, which might incorporate Armada in addition to X-Wing. Because you don't have to be here in Oregon with us to participate, you could just send in your battle reports and help determine the fate of the galaxy, or, at least, the sector.
