Second league tournament in southern California - a report

By chicklewis, in CoC General Discussion

Ever hear of a tournament where you win one of the extremely cool and unobtainable Cthulhu faux leather deck boxes just for showing up ?

I just hosted such a tournament. Last time I had two players, this time only one. I must be doing something wrong.

Color me bummed.

Chick

It might just not be the case in the US, but here in southern Europe tournament season is completely dead in late spring, summer and eary autumn. Might just be that people prefer more popular ventures now that they can go an expect them to be full.

Of course the kitchentable manifesto gaming Nate & al. wanted to put forward is quite opposite to tournaments, but that's a given.

try hosting some Deck building classes or casual game nights (like make it a faction only night or agency vs. Cthulu or something) for a while and get them used to showing up on a certain night. Then after people start devloping showing up as a rutine whip out the tournamnets. Prizes are a lure, but tournamnets are usually a big scare to newer players learning the game, especially going from demo to tournament.

I'm in Southern CA. Please let me know when your next one is. I may be able to have 2-4 of us there.

Thanks,

Tisben

Way to go Tisben and gang! Chick, you did it. That's critical minimum right there. Good luck.

Thanks for the message, Tisben. I responded to your 'FFG friend' offer, but that system seems awfully clunky to me. I'd love to have you and your gang at the next tournament. Please email me at [email protected] and we can communicate directly. Since you are likely to be bringing the majority of the players to the next tournament, I want to schedule it for your convenience !!

Encouraged,

Chick

Thanks Mate!

I sent you an e-mail.
