2v2, 100pts Each - Any Experiences?

By LtRico, in X-Wing

Hi all,

in my circle of friends, I am Patient Zero concerning X-Wing. Now, after the infection has recently spread, we plan a big 2vs2 casual game this friday night - basically regular 100 pts lists for each, 200 pts per side, Rebels vs Imperials, no faction mixing.

Me and my flight buddy will be the Rebels, he plans on bringing HWK Kyle with 1x named B-/X-Wing each in support, while I thought about Etahn to dish out those crits with 3 naked Bees, or 2 named and loaded Beesfor my list.

Only Large ships available in this meta are a VT49 and a Lambda Shuttle.

Any experiences, besides nibbles, drinks and lots of space?

What ultimate synergy lists would be possible?

Any comments?

I've played 2V2 this setup and I liked supporting with a Y-wing swarm.

I suspect the answer is business as usual.

I've done it in a 3'x3' (would recommend 4'x4') table. It was fun. The fact that there were 6 pimped out large ships on the board help alleviate the clusterflock that would have been. It's pretty fun.

My regular group is 4 strong and we play 2v2 nearly every week. It really opens up more synergy potential, as there are more potentials to give rerolls or PS12 to (for example). We really like it. Our house rules:

We play on a double-sized mat (6x3) with twice the asteroids. Half the asteroids have to be placed in each half of the mat, though there is no range 2 restriction from the middle.

We play faction-pure, and generally Rebels vs Imps.

Each player on a side builds his own 100 point fleet. However, we play no duplicate Unique cards on a side. We have already decided that team-mates cannot share IG-88 abilities. Mostly it's standard though, with each player running a 100-point build.

I should add that I've done it 4X4 and 3X4 long. Each time I played no large ships were used, but that was down to preference.

Going to second the use a bigger board thing. Might also consider more rocks or debris.

Last time we did it one revel wad yelling at the other because Wedge stole all his kills.

My group has done 200 pt 1 vs 2 and 2 vs 2 games. The only major difference is that they tend to run much longer, 3-4 hours versus 1-1.5 for regular 100 pt battles.

My group plays this way about once a week. I recommend a 3x4 foot area with about 8 or 10 obstacles.

To keep things moving, write down the order of activation and the order of combat during the first round, and have one player call out the turn order during the game. During the planning phase, it's a good idea to call out the activation order so everyone can be reminded about when ships are going to move.

Cheap tough ships are my preference. B-Wings, Y-Wings, Bombers can be good choices. Ordnance with splash damage or splash ions, and bombs, can be pretty effective on a crowded table.

Good stuff everyone, thanks!

We also wont be playing with duplicate uniques

I was thinking about fielding Nera Dantels with Dead Eye and Ion Torpedo to practically guarantee a mass ion effect when I need it most - but that price tag effectively reduces my list to 3 ships (+ 3 from my buddy), which might be a bit lacking in the cloud of enemy fighters I am expecting.

Or am I wrong in expecting a massive initial joust followed by a confusing fur ball?

I often play 2v2 or 2v1 even on a 3x3 table and I find the game plays fine. When i started out playing x-wing me and my friends would often have to play on much smaller tables then 3x3 so now when we play on a 3x3 table it just seems huge. We even play 300pt games on a 3x3 with two sets of asteroids and its still fun (If at times a little deadly for tie pilots :P).

get a bigger effing table/

9sqft / 100vs100 pts of ships.

One day I'm going to squeeze 44 tie fighters into a three foot wide deployment area and run with that. :P
