Do you plan to use the new tie advanced?

By bmwrider, in X-Wing

On average 3 Red Dice result in: 1.5 Hits, adding in either Focus or Target Lock it bumps up to 2.25 hits.

Accuracy Correct guarantees 2 Hits, making it statistically better than 3 Red Dice with no offensive buff, and a bit worse than 3 Dice with some focus.

In addition the guarantee of 2 hits means the x1 can focus on defensive actions (evade comes to mind).

Alternate options: for a single point you can put Advanced Targeting Computer which gives a guaranteed Crit if you maintain (and do not use) a TL. This is strictly better than 3 Red Dice as it is 3 Red Dice, except one roll is always a crit. While you can't spend a TL with this you can still spend focus (which is more or less equal to TL anyway).

What this really does is let you get a 20pt fighter with great survivability and good damage output.

I'll definitely be using the Tie/A, just need to get more of them now.

I would love to use the new Tie Advanced, but I won't. Not because it isn't awesome, but because I have zero interest in Epic and won't buy an epic ship for a card... Same reason I don't have Wes, C-3PO, or any of the huge ship cards. By far my biggest complaint about this game is FFG packaging upgrades we want for the "normal" game with epic ships.

To the point, I couldn't agree more. I've always wanted to play the ship. It's not only iconic, but a great looking model!

I have all of the cards mentioned, but haven't bought any epic ships. Many players will buy two or more of the epics and be willing to trade some of their duplicate cards. Check out the Big X-Wing Trade Thread and some good things can happen.

I don't expect this to work for the Tie/A upgrades, but maybe at least for the pilots.

Why wouldn't it work for the upgrades? 8 of the same card is an awful lot..

Good point! For some reason I was under the impression that each raider only had two of each upgrade card. I recant my position and endorse trading whole heartedly.

I'm just hoping the raider comes with enough TIE/x1 titles that I will not need to buy 2 of them. $100 is a bit much for a model I'll likely never use.

It was suggested upthread that the Raider has 4 copies each of the new Advanced stuff.

Not suggested, outright stated. We can plainly see them in the picture.

I even think it was said in the preview article, though I might be misremembering that.

Edit: @ Thrawn: Your field tests are GREAT! Keep up the great work and Danke/Thank you!

Have proxied maarek Steele with ATC, triggering his ability fairly reliably is good stuff.

I sometimes lose track of what's been confirmed/spoiled and what's just common knowledge.

Why will it help the Defender?

Possibly he is refering to the synergy between Vessery and the Advanced Targeting Computer. Since the ATC doesn't spend the TL, it means more TLs on the board for Vessery to piggy-back off of.

Bingo! Vesseray, Stele, and Alozen go very well together.

I appoligize, but could you fill me in on how they are changing the x1? do I have to rebuy TiE Advanced units after a certain date to get new cards? will they be marked?

The TIE advanced expansion pack is not changing. It is safe to buy now.

There is an alternate paint job TIE advanced coming in the box with the Imperial Huge ship, the Raider class corvette

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=5274

included in that box are 4 copies each of 2 cards designed to greatly improve the X1. The first is a title that give the ship a system slot and a big discount to whatever system is taken, and the other is a new, TIE advanced only, system that buffs its offensive output. You can read more detail about these two cards in the article I linked to.

If you want to buy the Raider, then great, your set. If you don't want to buy a $100 ship just to buff a ship you already have (and that is perfectly understandable), I want to emphasize again that the box comes with 4 of each card, they should be quite easy to find on ebay, or from 3rd party sellers, or to trade for with friends or online. Plus, in friendly games, you can always proxy the cards. That doesn't work for tournaments of course, but in friendly games I would expect most players would understand why you don't have those 2 cards in particular.

Thinking about how to get Advanceds into mixed squads, using Vader but not in the advanced;

2 x Tempest AC

Doom Shuttle

Soontir Fel PTL AT TC

Could be fun, tanky and enough firepower to support the super flanker. And I always want a shuttle in there :D

Yeah, I'm not certain what roll the generics will fill (outside of my "never have to roll -most- dice ever again" squad, 'cause **** yeah!)

The AC easily fixes their offensive deficiency, but they're still very defensively minded and more-so now that they don't need to worry about modifying their attack.

I do think they should be able to outlast an equal points worth of turrets between guaranteed damage, guaranteed (most of the time) evade, and 3 agility shoring up 2 shields and 3 hull. I'm not really looking forward to clashing with high agility, though, even with 2 guaranteed his.

As for the other pilots, we'll just have to see. Commander Ps 5 seems ready made for the ATC despite his lower skill, so he can pack quite a punch for relatively cheap (certainly preferable to me than an interceptor).

Maarek I have never used, but crits are a break way of maximizing damage when you can only force a few damage through high agility so he might find a place fairly easily.

As for the other 3 named pilots, only time will tell :D

I've been proxy-ing these for a while now and I've had a lot of fun when they've hit the table. Especially when watching Maarek Stele clawing apart a B-Wing and actually triggering his ability when he gets used! It's amazing.

Whether it's AC or Adv Targeting computer, the 3-point system discount gives the Advanced a lot of options now. I feel that all 2 ATT ships need to have something going for them, and before the TIE/x1's advantage was Munitions (yeah...). Now it's System Upgrade. And that's only going to get better with new system upgrade slots, whatever they may be, coming down the pipeline.

the 3-point system discount

Its a 4 point discount.

Even better.

It's only $100 from your local store. I've pre-ordered mine for less. I picked up my Tantive IV for about $52 + shipping while it sits on my local game store for $90. I love to support my local store, but when the price difference is that high, I go online. The Imperial Raider is on Miniature Market for $68 right now. I had it when people go on about spending $100 for something they only want the cards for when they wouldn't really spend $100 for it.
