The Varied Swarm (Now With Fleet Officer!)

By ArdusKaine, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Omicron Group Pilot (21)

- Fleet Officer (3)

- Advanced Sensors (3)

Howlrunner (18)

Alpha Squadron Pilot (18)

Sigma Squadron Pilot (25)

Academy Pilot (12)

Total: 100

This is a totally goofy swarm list I'd like to try. The Pale Lumbering Aurochs will stay relatively close to the swarm (not trying to keep it at range 1 of Howlrunner, but if possible it's a nice addition) to enable Fleet Officering before revealing the maneuver (in case of bumps etc.).

Meanwhile, the other four ships fly a staggered swarm formation with Howl / AP in the middle and the INT on the side closest to the OGP and Sigma on the side farthest from it (in case it needs to cloak / de-cloak).

I'd like to include at least some upgrades on the Lambda and I thought Fleet Officer would help to provide focuses in the case of a bump or to allow some additional survivability in the form of an evade if I think I'm going to be taking a rough shot.

Thoughts? Seems to me the weakest point in the list is low PS, but I should be able to block relatively well.

Has anyone got much experience in using uncloaked phantoms as jousters? It seems like something that's likely to die far to fast for the investment.

I dunno. Fleet officer is a good upgrade; but to get the most out of it, you need two 'big sticks' to be giving the focus tokens to. I'm not sure TIE fighters count.

I've had funny thoughts of a basic phantom running around with fleet officer.

No need to decloak just float around handing out focus.

More manouverable then the lambda and people will ignore it cause cloaked.

Then late game it can decloak & finish off a ship if need be.

Due to some unlucky rolls it didn't have quite the effect I wanted it to have on the TIEs. However it kept the Interceptor without damage to the point where, when I realized I was going to lose the game, the Interceptor was the only ship alive (the shuttle had some hull but was blocked very well and wasn't going to be shooting anytime soon) that could really make a difference.

Overall Fleet Officer coupled with either k-turning TIEs to keep shots or taking evades when I knew a range 1 pop would happen was really useful -- I just need to get a bit better at flying the multiple ships in the swarm. I didn't cloak with the Phantom, and I'm beginning to think Swarm Tactics might be better on Howl to ensure the Phantom gets a shot.
