I have just purchased and played a couple of games. Loving the game but already looking at potential expansions. The problem is what first? Is it best to buy them in the order they were released or just any I fancy (or cheapest) ?
Which first?
i got them all and i am going to have my players pick whats next to open and who will be o.l.
Get the big box expansions first together with at least on lieutenant pack. Gives you most for your bucks.
While I am a recent convert to Descent 2e, it was suggested to me that the best bang for the buck is to get a big box expansion first. Since the OL card for SoN cannot be used in any other campaign, I went for LoR to have more basic cards to select from.
As to the smaller expansion, many suggest Trollfens or LotW but I would suggest getting those sets that look most interesting to you. For me as the primary OL and buyer, I wanted a box that gave me the monster I wanted to play for I got LotW.
This Sunday is my daughter's birthday = LotW
Two weeks is my birthday = LoR
Other daughter's birthday isn't until May = :'-(
Edited by krejatonIf by "games" you mean quests, then you don't necessarily need a big box expansion just yet as you will not have seen everything the Shadow Rune campaign has to offer yet. A small box expansion will add a little bit of everything to the campaign you already have (heroes, classes, monsters, quests etc.) and will let you get the most out of your base game before moving on in my opinion. Small box expansions also don't cost as much if that is a consideration for you. I definitely agree with picking up a lieutenant pack or two to see if you like them. They add a new dimension to playing as the overlord and if like them, there are plenty to choose from.
