Storage Today what is everyone using?

Battlefoam Spear Bag

I just don't know what to do once I outgrow the Plano 1374. I'm not going with one of the custom foam companies as it's just too expensive. Maybe I just get some sort of case for my two Epic ships? I need some cheap foam or something (cheap or free) and a box to store them in.

Use more Plano 1734?

Feldherr carrying cases.

The full-size foam boards can be cut out into any shape you want so all my models fit nicely, plus it isn't very expensive.

I use a Lego carrying case I had lying around. I use the plastic bags that come with the expansions to organize it a little. I find it suits my needs but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else, especially people with lots of large ships. I have so far only managed to fit my small ships and my Firespray in it.

I picked up some of the red Plano toolboxes when they were half off at Menards. 3, because we have a new faction coming soon.

battle foam 720 using custom trays.. I have pretty much 6 or more of every ship. however my decimaters are not included in that because i have not updated my foam for them.. kind of waiting on scum to drop and maybe even the raider as well. I keep my trays segregated by faction. that way as my collection grows i can just get another 720 bag and make one Imperial and one rebel. I already have a shield bag that i am going to make into scum.. Battle foam also makes a bag that attaches to the bottom of the 720 for even greater expansion possibilities. that said when i am just playing at my LGS and don't want to lug around ALL my stuff i use a plano 7720 for my individual lists/tokens/cards dice etc. I keep my upgrade and ship cards in a binder. the 7720 will also fit in the top of a 720 bag... The plano is handy because the compartments are configurable.

Consider the state of the game, already...and now consider the state of it as the year progresses. More Rebel and Imperial ships. More Scum and Villainy ships. Imperial (and likely Scum) Huge ships. Etc.

Trying to come up with a portable solution for an entire collection...? That way leads to madness!

Battlefoam P.A.C.K. 432, soon to be moving into my Battlefoam P.A.C.K. 1520XL.

This is very interesting, first I've ever seen this used for X-Wing. Can you provide links to the products you use? Maybe a few other photos show how it stacks together?

There is a good video demo'ing the system here, click the second video.

Each piece has a carrying handle at the top, and they snap together just by placing the units on top of each other. To release, you have to press in both side to disconnect the boxes.

I bought the following:

LBOXX-1A with insert set

LBOXX-1 (empty)

Foam-101 (for LBOXX-1) x 2

LBOXX-2 (empty)

The LBOXX 1/2 have the same interior layout. Most notably, they have indentions on the sides that cut into the overall rectangle shape. I used the insert set from the first L-BOXX-1 to put in the LBOXX-2, which is just deeper. This way I can store my large base bases upright. Doing this makes it so it doesn't sit flush with the lid, so I can't knock it over without making a big mess. It is fairly sturdy so that typically won't happen.

Interior dimensions:

16"x12.5" - but keep in mind the indentions cut into this a little

lboxx1: 2.75" deep

lboxx2: 4" deep

The bottom of the lboxx-1 has these little circle indentions. The little bins have pegs on the bottom that fit in. When used in the LBOXX-1 (not the 2 like I use them for), the foam insert for the lid keeps all the bins sealed when the lid is closed.

Here is a pic of my Rebels. I'm mostly an Imperial kind of guy, but there's plenty of room for expansion.

Aside from the store bought stuff, I use a few custom printed storage devices. I swear I spend more time devising ways to organize and customize my x-wing than I do actually playing

The little grey bins store all the tokens and stack together. Their footprint is the same as one of the red bosch little bins. I use 2 custom printed card caddies that fit inside the green bosch bin, and I bolt my cardboard squares together (printed, again).

I initially interpreted this to mean that you made a carrying case out of lego. I'd like to see that.

This is basically what I mimicked for my own collection:

A modular solution that scales with any amount of future ships...

Okay, so I want to know. What are your cheap choices for HUGE ship storage?

I want one of each, so 1 Transport 1 Corvette 1 Raider. And probably the 2nd Imp Huge too.

Cheap.

I'd like to know the answer to that, as well. Any of those specialty foam cases are not cheap. If I can get my hands on some packaging foam or even an old mattress.....addition? Those things that look like egg crates made of foam? Well, I'd just wrap up the ships and put them in a cardboard box or something.

I use the plano 732, this video that originally let me know about it explains it's uses for x wing, imperial assault, and armada pretty well:

I've been using the big'ol Plano 732 which has been great for my rather large collection. Though I'm a little worried how I'll make it work for Scum.

I have a Plano 732 from back in my Heroclix days that I have repurposed for xwing. Works great. Though I don't have nearly as much ships as others, I'm getting there. Currently have an entire large tray open for Scum.

I use Battle Foam and generally like it a lot.

Does anyone know where I can get pluck foam; I'd like to try that in the Battle foam?

But the 432 and the 720 PAKs

I sure hope you like it for the price you pay!

I don't know anything about getting foam for them, though.

With S&V coming, I started to print out those "tuck boxes" that are on Board Game Geeks (BGG). I'll put them at the top of my Plano 1374 and use that spare room for my S&V. I just wish there was one for the Lambda.

KR Multicase :D

Custom foam tray for templates, dice damage cards etc, another one for tokens and dials. 2x foam trays to carry 10 ships on stands in each, so 5 Ties and 5 Interceptors in one and 3 x-wings with 2 B's in the other. Room for the 3 "most wanted" ships soon :D. One last tray, a half depth pick and pluck containing 2 Firesprays, large bases, a deckbox for pilot cards and a slot for equipment cards.

So, 3 x 100 point Imperial lists with no overlapping ships and 1x 100 point Rebel, in case I can find someone that wants to try out the game.

All this for £36, well chuffed. I ride a motorbike so I can only carry 2 KR cases in my KR.backpack, hence the economy of space.

My worry with the "Plano" style storage system is, I would think, that there would be wear and tear on the ships, jostling around against hard plastic. I dread to think how many x-wing cannons may have broken off.

Horses for courses I s'pose.

I've used my Plano since Wave 1 and not had a single bit out of place or damaged.

:D

I've done quite a few repaints and feel far more comfortable with my ships in a soft foam.

I understand. I've also carried around a large number of Warhammer figures in the same kit and not had a single problem with them, either. I've spent hours painting those suckers up and was happy to find no issues.

Then again, if you want to spend lots of money for the extra security, I say go for it. There is also a cool factor to it. I still am happy to pull out my ships that are already on stands from my Plano system that only cost me about $30/USD and holds my entire collection.
