Music to play alongside Imperial Assault.

By Fizz, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Going through my collection of Star Wars scores by John Williams, I wanted to pick out a few tracks that would really set the mood for Imperial Assault sessions.

i am trying to pick tracks that really evoke those thoughts of climactic battles, the ones that you almost get choked up hearing because they evoke memories past of all that is awesome in Star Wars.

Here are my picks so far, would love your suggestions!

  • Star Wars Theme ( All 3 movies ): <-- Used at the beginning of the campaign while reading the players the crawl on page 3 of the GC)
  • The Walls Converge ( New Hope ) <-- My personal favorite, as it slowly ramps up the tension over 4 minutes.
  • The Last Battle ( New Hope ) <-- At 12 minutes, this one goes back and forth between imperial advantage and rebel advantage and is a great "catch all" track.
  • Ben's Death/The Fighter Attack ( New Hope ) <--I like to separate these two tracks and start just at 1:45 for The Fighter Attack, this track has that heroic escape feel.
  • The Battle In The Snow ( Empire ) <-- This track really oozes conflict.
  • Imperial March ( Empire ) <-- So iconic, you cannot NOT include this one.
  • Asteroid Field ( Empire ) <-- Great pacing track for keeping the game moving along quickly. Great for time pressure situations.
  • Hyperspace ( Empire ) <--Wonderful "last turn" track, if you can get that last turn done in under 4 minutes.
  • The Return of the Jedi ( Jedi ) <--Starts off slow and becomes a massive Rebel anthem, you can just see R2 launching that lightsaber for Luke...
  • The Emperor Confronts Luke ( Jedi ) <-- Deploying Royal Guards? Use this track. The chanting at 1:08 is ominous and foreboding.
  • Into The Trap ( Jedi ) <-- It's a trap! (Sorry, couldn't help myself! Great battle prep track)
  • Star Wars Finale ( Empire ): <-- Only on the Empire disc, has that "ray of hope" intro and is a great track to put a cap on the gaming evening.

Very cool.

I confess that during my play sessions, my music of choice was the Star Wars: The Old Republic soundtrack. I like it because it is evocative of Star Wars, but feels like a new story, so for me it fits well with the new heroes in this game.

That and I didn't play much of TOR, so the music doesn't remind me of that era as much.

I've got the soundtrack for all 3 original trilogy movies on a sd card that I plug in to my mini portable speaker and play during games.

Anything Dream Theater.

I've been thinking of doing something like this for a while, so I'm glad to see someone else has had the same idea. I think you made some good choices, and I'm going to check out the TOR soundtrack, because I like that idea.

Fett's Vette. :P

I bought the episode iv soundtrack for our first game

Fett's Vette. :P

War's over, I'm a peacetime Mandalorian....

Though I'm primarily into death and black metal \m/ I've found that anything by Yuki Kajiura fits well with tabletop sessions.

FTL (Faster Than Light) soundtrack is pretty nice for tabletop gaming in a scifi setting.

and ofc the original music from Star Wars itself apart from the slow sad themes.

Duel of the Fates. Say what you like about the Phantom Menace, that saber fight at the end looked and sounded epic.

no spaceballs music? lol kidding :P

Computer : This ship will self-destruct in exactly 10 seconds.

Computer : Counting down. 10, 9, 8, 6--

Skroob : 6?! What happened to 7?!

Computer : Just kidding!
