Four bank and four turns, plus going backwards are both in Attack Wing and drastically overrated. Plus they can shoot each other when in base contact.
What I would like to see is a ship that can perform a 1 K turn. I know an Interceptor ACE has it but I have never flowed against him.

The easiest thing to do would be to be able to fly backwards. But I dont think that will come anytime soon.

It's not thematic. Star Wars fighters don't really have a reverse.
Cobra roll: Barrel roll K-turn.
Reverse K-Turn: Move backwards and rotate 180 degrees.
Circle Strafe: Barrel Roll with a curved template
Hyperdrive: Straight maneuver using the range ruler.
Sidewinder: Normal bank followed by the opposite bank.
Kamikaze: Self destruct after colliding with another ship, destroying yourself and a ship with equal or less hull.

I think this would be best on a specific pilot and not a whole ship

Maybe they will in the new movie, and that'll be the next "fix"

well I know it wont be the "Picard" maneuver...
Vector thrust: After your move, turn your ship to face in any direction.
Stowaway: If in base contact with a larger ship you can 'extend a landing claw' to attach yourself to it and hitch a ride (when it moves, you move with it).
The Handbrake. Do a barrel roll like normal but when you place your ship, place it so it is facing back to where you were.

that's because star wars ships fly like aircraft not like spacecraft 
my suggestion:
suicide run: arbitrary template + blowing your reactor at the end of it with area damage (/rolls) depending on distance including friendlies
