This game's biggest problem

By Keffisch, in Star Wars: The Card Game

Is not the (now more or less fixed) Smuggler & Spies power creep.

No no - it is the fact that you have to play BOTH sides.

Who cares about the rebels, when you can field a fully operational BATTLE STATION and wield the powerful might of the Imperial Navy? !!!

On a more serious note, I don't care much for playing rebels and I really wish that there was a tournament mode / alternative to the usual LS/DS - DS/LS DS/LS - LS/DS setup.

Yes this would invite mirror matches but, I'd rather do that than sit through another game of playing nerf herders and rebel scum. Sadly the game was not balanced around that.

Can't say I particularly agree, but then I'm lucky enough to enjoy playing both sides.

The problem, of course, is that the game is very much not designed to facilitate same-side conflict - when two Dark Side decks duel, how would you determine the victor? If it's based on destroying Objectives, then Imperial Navy has a distinct advantage. If it's based on the Death Star dial, whomever goes first has a significant edge. And that's before we get into the Balance of the Force, or the fact that you'd have priority ties on Fate cards...

And then thematically, I can see Dark Side infighting, that's...kinda archetypical for them. But the Light currently has a common enemy (the Empire) to unite them - until the fall of the Empire, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I enjoy playing both sides. I now find other games where I play one and the same deck all the time boring actually. I think it is one of the games better features not a problem.

I'm usually much more excited to play mono Scum & Villainy than any other faction, so I totally see where you are coming from. But for me, I could never do mirror matches in this game. I'm grateful for the dual-deck nature of the game because it's so much more satisfying to capture or Force Choke Lukes, Leias, and Hans than it is Vaders and Fetts. And given where the game is at with respect to my skill level, it's nice to win a game every now and then, and that most often happens as LS. :D

I generally agree with this, with the distinction that I prefer the Rebels. I just like being the good guys and fighting the power.

I like it all

Sorry, but I do not concur with the opening post. I love playing with both sides.

“Only at the end do you realize the power of the Dark Side.”

Weren't those the emperor's last words?

Anyways, I do wish there were a competitive format that would allow you to only play your preferred deck, but I really don't see one that works within the framework of the game, it'd be like trying to play only one side in Netrunner, it just doesn't work.

Weren't those the emperor's last words?

I believe his last word was something akin to "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
