Cluster Missiles and their Second Attack

By IvlerIin, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I cannot recall if this question has been answered before so here it is.

When attacking with Cluster Missiles and the Target is destroyed on the first attack can you attack a different ship within your firing arc and Range 1-2?

If the above answer is 'Yes'? Also wondering if the target of the first attack is not destroyed can I select a different target for my second attack (again staying within arc and R1-2)?

The FAQ states it is treated as two separate attacks against the same target, so it would appear no would be the answer.

However, under Darth Vader's entry:

If a ship equipped with Darth Vader can attack twice in one round (such as a ship equipped with Gunner or Cluster Missiles), it can use Darth Vader after the first attack. If Darth Vader destroys the ship to which he is equipped, it can still perform its second attack.

So I guess that kinda contradicts it a little.

Thanks, makes them slightly less useful if the target folds in the first volley, but if it's off the board that 4pts gamble paid off.

Ya, in that situation I would just be happy to have gotten the one-turn kill.

The edit about Vader does contradict things a little in regards to Clusters. But it makes sense when talking about gunner since the first attack still missed (proc'ing gunner) but Vader wanted to Force Choke the guy anyway.

How so? The Vader(crew) faq makes no mention of anything happening if the TARGET is destroyed, it is just clarifying what happens if Vader kills his own ship on the first attack.

Oops. My bad. Misread it. I think I need new glasses.

So that would bring us back to Cluster Missile attacks must be on the same target. Right?

Page 14 of the X-WIng FAQ says that cluster missiles attacks the same target twice. So it can't target another ship with its second attack.
