Need a Vader-ish looking bad guy? Here you go!

By Desslok, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Spun this off into its own thread,

I forgot about Count Vidian. He was definitely a Vader surrogate, but he was an evil jerk. A good example of how oddly you are treated when you are more machine than man.

speaking of Vader Knock-offs, a Facebook group Brainstorm does a new art challenge every month, and this month's is a great GM resource: Redesign Darth Vader and/or stormtroopers. Need a Sith Lord that looks like Vader? Here you go!

I like the take on stormtroopers in the second picture. It goes beyond just the faceless, sameness and actually gives off a much more sinister appearance.

I am very tempted to use that for my players, as some other entity.

Wow! Desslok, I've used quite a few of your ideas already, but this is even better!

With Anakin dead, this would be perfect for my game. The players are enjoying the set-up with all the various factions, but some of them lament the lack of a 'bad guy' antagonist to fight against. This guy could solve that problem single-handedly.

And with the extreme prejudice against droids and cyborgs that's a major feature of our game, he might even have some sympathetic elements. Maybe he has a reason to hate the bigoted meatbags. Something like a renegade Sith, seeing as how our Jedi/Sith are Force-using supremacists who see droids and clones as worthless canon-fodder to be exploited. After being horrifically injured in the line of duty, they are revolted by his cybernetic form and expel him from the Order. He has a revelation, deciding to be champion of all the droids and clones who are ruthlessly oppressed by the warring factions, used as disposable fodder in meatbag wars. So now the organics - all of them - must burn...

That would actually make him a dark mirror of our Lucas Lars character. Lars is fighting for sanity and peace, to restore balance to a world at war. This guy is fighting for a oppressed and downtrodden minority, but he goes too far and wants to destroy all organic species, believing that they will always try to exploit synthetic beings... (I think I just found a new use for the Gank too!)

Thanks very much! Nothing stirs my imagination like great art!

Oh, I wish I could take credit for this - but naw, I just found it in my internet travels during lunch and thought I'd share, knowing that someone would get some milage out of this art.

And man, I do love the guy with the broadsword at the bottom. That guy is some kind of badass fighter from Soul Caliber or something.

My favorite's gotta be giant mecha Vader. Though the first one might be perfect for another idea I have.

Good find, penguin lord!

That first picture is absolutely bad-ass. I -have- to rewrite my inquisitor now to make that fit!

Maelora, I like your ideas about motivations! I think it would be super interesting to have an antagonist who was forced against his original ideals. It occurs to me that Galen Marek was a force sensitive clone who was (twice!) absolutely butchered and would need extensive cybernetics. I think Starkiller himself would probably not make a great bad guy, but someone with a somewhat similar story arc would.

Sounds good - a mix of Galen Marek and Anakin (both of whom are dead in our game) and a bit of Saren Arterius from Mass Effect. I think this guy will try and 'save' those organics he deems worthy, by turning them into cyborgs against their will... (a fate worse than death for 99% of our species). He'll also be served by the Gank, who willingly give up their meatbodies for 'oneness with the machine' - in fact, they are probably the ones who stitched him together after his horrific injuries.

So he'll riff off the Vader influences, being somewhat of a tragic cyborg villain and a 'well-intentioned extremist' while still being very creepy (everyone else hates droids and he embraced his cybernetics gladly). His methods are extreme, but he's also the only one fighting for a disenfranchised underclass of enslaved droids and clones. If he meets Guri or our droid PC, sparks might fly.

And I'll finally have my 'big bad guy' after so long! We just watched 'Guardians of the Galaxy' again, and the general consensus among the players was that our game really needed an iconic villain to be a true nemesis for the PCs. (Which is kind of ironic, as this guy will hate the two main antagonist factions - Empire and Jedi/Sith - more than anyone else, seeing as how they oppress droids and clones more brutally than the others...)

I just started looking through the facebook page you linked Desslok, and wow! If I hadn't been at work, I would've definitely looked sooner. There were several that would be awesome for any sort of heavily armoured character.

This one in particular really stood out:

A lot of great Vader re-imaginings as well.

Thanks again for sharing!

Oooh, I really like this guy:

This one is pretty Goddamned Metal:

Now THIS is a broadsword I can get behind!

Desslok, you're making it very hard not to just introduce the Inquisitor right now (My group is ~60XP) just to use that beautiful art. My party will be very upset when they're all systematically lightsabered.

Well, when they get sabered to bits by a cool looking fellow like this, they probably wont feel as bad!

Very cool, I sense a Sith Lord in my future.

So, for those of us who absolutely refuse to use Facebook, is there an alternate location where we can view these images?

These look brilliant! I really like the Mecha-Vader and the Sithclops

Doesnt look like they have another page - deviant art and the like. I think your stuck with Facebook on this one.

That or I can post some of the awesome ones here for you:

Well, it's official - the Inquisitor is getting introduced way ahead of schedule, solely because with art this awesome, how could I resist? It's still a few sessions off, but I've decided Dead in the Water is not, in fact,

a plot from Imperial Intelligence

, but rather a

domination scheme from the dude of the first image.

Muahahahaha!

Okay, one last post, catches us up to where we were on wesnday:

Looks like he strolled off an Iron Maden album cover. . . .

I'll be using a couple of these images, no doubt. Thanks for the heads up about them!

The second image reminds me of the Yuuzhan Vong.

This pic is awesome for a heavy armored PC or security force. They are so different from the original stormtrooper that you can't confuse the two, but have the perfect feel/fit for the game. I feel like saying "I'm sorry, but do these come in any other color?..."
