[SoN] Where the Heart is

By Indalecio, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I was looking at the three act II (effectively Finale) quests available to me as the OL in the MoR mini-campaign and noticed something in the "Where the Heart is" quest:

In this quest, Skarn appears based on the presence of master monsters on the Basement tile. The number of master monsters on the same tile defines how much life he gets. Heroes can kill him, but he appears again based on the same rule at end of turn.

Now here's the thing, the quest rules say exactly this:

"At the end of each overlord turn, if 1 or more master monsters are on the Basement, the overlord may place Skarn in an empty space on the Basement with 1 health remaining. Then for each monster group with a master monster on the Basement, Skarn recovers health equal to the number of heroes."

The text doesn't stipulate that that Skarn must be dead (not on the Basement) to do this, so basically what I´m reading is that if Skarn is still alive at end of turn (and where he is doesn't matter) then I may decide to make him spawn again in the basement next to a master monster with new health total equal to the above calculation. Is this correct?

Does this bit of text appear in the "reinforcements" section? If so, there's an implicit assumption that you're only placing defeated monsters. Otherwise, say there was a bit about placing a goblin archer (respecting group limits, of course) on the entrance. There's not anything saying you can't remove a goblin from somewhere else on the map and put him on the entrance- but the idea is that you only place if there is one that's not on the map.

Note: Before posting this, I haven't gone to look at the reinforcement rules on the inside of the shadow rune quest guide. There might actually be a statement there about only reinforcing monsters that aren't on the map. If so, that would also cover this situation.

Hmmm good point. And yes, this text is part of the Reinforcement section. This said, Skarn does not belong to any monster group?

Not true- each lieutenant is treated as a monster in its own group.

Okay, I really need to re-read all that.
