X-Wing Alliance now on GOG.com!

If you find good joysticks, please post here. I'm looking and think that maybe a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is best? I want one with a thrust controller on it, though.

the 3D extreme pro does have thrust control.

it's the best stick within the low end price range.

Let's assume, for the sake of discussion that:

A) I have never used a joystick for playing a game

B) Money is not a concern

Given the above, what joysticks would be recommended for these types of games? I am looking for specific make/models so that I can take a look on-line and find one. Thanks in advance for any advice provided.

With A: any will do as a starter.

with B: Get a thrustmaster, Thrustmaster Cougar is the funniest named Joystick ever. Get that.

In fact, I just found that there is a 54.99 thrustmaster stick going at amazon, get that. Get a thrustmaster stick over anything else. Thrustmasters are the best joysticks.

Other sticks to consider: Wingmen = eh, they do the job. I have one, my first stick was actually a wingman light - for playing xwing vs tie fighter. Truth is they have a naff deadzone, they are entry level sticks.

Saitek Cyborgs. Know a friend who loved his. Was a good solid stick. The X-55 looks nice.

not sure if the nvidia issue is fixed in the gog version but the installer for the xwa upgrade has a fix for that.

The fix in the XWA upgrade is for the font, not the nvidia taring...

I've been playing through XWA for the first time, think I'm about 10 missions in, it's a blast! Highly recommend it. Can see why people are always talking about wanting to see the Otana in the game :)

Is there any multi player options?

Yes, you'll need to either LAN it or connect to IP.

connecting to IP isn't that hard though once you've done it a couple of times.

Oh, so you can only connect to one IP at a time? There isn't any servers or service out there? Poo.

Are there good non-campaign missions to use?

EDIT: I just found out that the upgrade packs on http://www.xwaupgrade.com/ won't work at the moment. They are written to work off the CD/DVD of the game. One guy there is taking his personal time to try to fix this for all of us out there that are just buying the game. He is not getting paid and does not have the problem, but is taking his own time to code up something to help all of us regular folk out here.

Talk about blast from the past! I used to play the mess out of those games. I found and joined a group that used to develop custom missions to fly with and against others where, to join, you had to have flown so many in game missions and develop a character bio. It grew into several squadrons (I was in Red, and briefly in Blue). Besides playing the game, we'd write stories about our characters/squadron. When the games died off, we continued writing stories and morphed into a writers' group. Believe it or not, the group is still around, although there hasn't been a new story written in about a year. I started a new story after posting that one, but sort of lost interest in writing it due to a lot of factors. There are only about 4-5 people left in the group and we always thought that if a new flight sim were to be released that we could get new members. Unfortunately, that never happened. But now the re-release of the games may mean a couple people may be interested. *shrug* we'll see. If you're curious, check out Red Squadron on Facebook.

In theory it should be like most TCP/IP related games, one person sets up as host, DMZ's his IP, sets his ports - all that good stuff. Everyone else can connect.

I once wrote a bunch of campaigns for it. Alas I suspect these are lost to time. Really though the missions are all good, do the battles.

Only downside is that no one has a flight stick anymore...Can't wait to play this again though. I never could finish it as a kid. Too young for it, but now? Definitely need to go through it again

Not the same I know but I've been using a PS3 controller hooked up and it works pretty good.

Flight sticks are still readily available, and very relevant for a bunch of games...

Yeah, except I don't have any friends that play this. Or a reliable time to set it up. Being a family man, it's not an easy thing to plan.

I feel that pain. I intend to be setting up a server on friday night. (the night all my gaming gets done).

Apparently there are six more coming. What's left? KotOR I and Battlefront I maybe. The Jedi Knight games. Kinda hoping Rebel Assault II comes out (the original TIE phantom game) so I can get revenge on that girder level.

While I've never played Rebel Assault 2, Rebel assault 1 has to be my least favorite out of all the Star wars games. All of them.

AWESOME! Thanks for posting. I think I'll finally snag this, only ever had hard copies of X-wing vs TIE Fighter :D
