Because the shop owner scoffed at my Marmalade call sign idea, I decided to take it. Wuahahahhaa.
"Scarlet Marmalade".

To quote an old favourite, all the good names are taken. just call them new guy.
Okay, maybe not for the OP.
I don't have a call sign yet, but I've been wanting to start an all male group of Phantom exclusive pilots that I will call "The Phantom Men Aces." As a show of solidarity with our in-game brethren Echo and Whisper, my fellow local gamers and I will be drawing random sound related names out of a TIE pilot's helmet. So far I've come up with "Fade," "Hush," and "Quietus." What do you think?

Edited by TrisstIsn't that a song about French hookers?
I like your idea, I don't have one but I think I will bring it up to my friends.
Oh and just a note for you, call signs are typically given by fellow pilots based on something that tells everyone how others see you, so I think you should stick with Scarlet and inform others its an old tradition to use only what others give you, and tell them the name is intended to boost moral so nothing derogatory, tradition started with WW1 aces and is still done today in every branch of the military.
So enjoy the tradition.
Scarlet!

This is quite true. And because the callsigns are used over the radio, they are usually kept short. Normally 1-2 syllables. It's quite often a spin on a surname, or to reflect a personal trait, but it's always a name given by consensus of fellow pilots. Pilots generally don't get to choose their own.
Due to my consistently sad dice rolling, my fellow gamers would probably come up with " No Luck " or " No Dice " or something along those lines for me.
@bubblepopmei: With your hair colour and passion for flying Kath, I think "
Scarlet
" is the perfect callsign for you.
In our group we get pilot nicknames too. The rule is that people choose it for you and you dont have
a say on it. If you dislike it you are helping people like it more.
Well, I got Turtle back when I was bouncing. We used to have to move tables to clear the "stage" for our house band. I had 6 giant wrestler slabs of meat working for me and the jackasses (I love them all, like sisters) couldn't work out how to move them by themselves. They'd always pair up to shuffle them over. Then they look over at me as I got underneath the table, grabbed a leg in each hand and "Turtled" the thing over to the side. It's stuck ever since.
The "War" is because I like the visual image of a turtle bred for conflict.

I landed "No Dice" and later just "Dice" from back in my Battletech CCG days. It wasn't due to my dice rolling skill (or lack thereof), but that I actually had a huge dice collection.
I tend to end up dead last in most of my games so ... Dead Man.
Out side of X Wing Trollkage is common.
To the point that I am introduced as such to new player of our play group.

I've always been called Mega, as that was my Heroscapers username before I started going to tournaments. I'm sometimes called Three-N-Two as well, since I often go 3-2 at the Heroscape tournaments. However our local X-Wing group does not use call signs. Well, except for Rebel Mike, who's an X-Wing ship fanatic and always has a X-Wing Pilot t-shirt on at the tournaments.
Pre-Gaming days I was always just Rock (since it's part of my last name). Has a different connotation in this game.
Last wargame was How... as in how did that happen. I was notorious for ridiculous game states that always seemed to work in my favor even when they shouldn't. The closest I have for this one is "Captain Squirrely"...I fly a lot of PTL Turr and Soontir.
Don't play enough these days to earn one right now. Sad.
Maybe the closest I've come to a peer-assigned callsign was my college cognomen, assigned by my faculty advisor and embraced by my fellow students: Slash (I signed my papers /).

This is how you turn a callsign/nickname into a positive.. haha awesome..
I use oneway, due to an arguement with a friend.. I wouldn't budge in my view, and he gave up, calling me a oneway bastard.. lol
It has served me well as email and logins for various webpages..
I had a roomate that was the most mild mannered, mama's boy you could imagine, so we called him killer. noone ever called him anything else. Came out gay his junior year, made the name even better.
This is a fun thread lol.
No callsign yet at with the groups I play in now, but about 5 years ago during a 40k tournament I was christened, simply, "6."
It started when I walked in for the tournament and approached the club member handling registration. I told him my first name, then he asked for my last, for whatever reason I either was compelled not to tell him just to be a troll (we got along well enough at the time to do dumb **** to each other like this) or I just happened to say first "I'm 5 or 6 on the list, I remember from signing up last week." That turned into him referring to me as if "5 or 6" was my last name, somehow it just became "6," and here we now are. I think it continues as a running joke among whoever's still active of that group lol.
I'm Still meaning to wear a BSG T-shirt with Caprica Six on it next time they host an event, just for a good laugh.
Well, if we're ruling out self-given nicknames, I guess that leaves the nickname "Pinkie" I picked up at school way back when...
So, what're we going to do tonight, brains?
I like this thread.
Unfortunately, none of the names we call each other are forum-friendly
