Well...
So here is my controversial list.. hehe
I get a lot of hate and as well laugther... both cause of silly decisions (in their mind) as well as fear.. MUHAHAA
Anyhow, i LOVE IT...
TIE Defender:
Rexler Brath
- Predator
- Autoblaster
TIE Fighter:
Howlrunner
- Swarm Tactics
Mauler Mithel
- Veteran Instincts
Night Beast
- Targeting Computer
Its just a 4 ship build which is, no question, fragile. But.. on range 1, which is easier to accomplish as you think.., deadly.
I saw that people still fear Howlrunner more then a Rexler and try to shoot her first which always works in my favour!
Which Defender would you fly?
My brother played autoblaster on a Defender, and it was murder. Speeding in and then being unable to cancel hits is a really good tactic - just a costly one.
I need to play test

I need to play test that. With an EU, range 1 should be pretty easy.

You know it might be pricy but that could work with Brath...that's the kind of out of the box thinking I like to see!!
If you use Engine Upgrade by definition you won't be using Brath's ability. Vessery might be a better call if you want to use Autoblaster.

I'd drop the EU then...but hmmm...that's a conundrum...I guess I'd have to try this with the colonel or a delta.

could use push the limit and bug out to clear stress and come back and hit and run again. Might be making it a bit more complicated than it is worth though

I love the idea, but I would take Howlrunner with 3 academies instead, to make the most of the rerolls. Makes Howlrunner even more a class A target and with class A targets you need at least two.
Used vessery and some tie advanced last night and it was pretty brutal, though my defence dice were shocking.
In the second game vessery landed twelve hits over three turns and ripped the outrider appart, once that was out of the way the escorts soon followed.
Only problem was he was so effective that marrek didn't really get to try out the new sensor upgrade.
Delta.
I had a revelation about Defenders the other day... The problem with Defenders is that both named pilots have abilities that are, on paper extremely powerful, but rely nearly 100% on the remainder of your list. If you get knocked down to only have Ves/Rex than all they really can be are PS6/8 Defenders. Rex's ability *can* still happen, but keeping a focus for post-attack instead of boosting the attack is a fairly niche thing.
Deltas are PS1, but they're durable. And with an Ion Cannon you have a 33 point ship that fires last to see what's happening, choose a target to Ion, and have the other 67 points of your list line up to thrash the victim on the next turn.
Although the named pilots abilities can be tricky sometimes they are free as your paying for their PS, vessery even without his ability is a threat with a HLC you can always use his TL if needed.
Rexler might not get to use his ability all the time but when it does go off it can be crippling.
I have to agree that i don't get to use Brath's ability that much, Honestly I want to pair Vessery with some TIE Advanced and look forward to the raider being out.

This was one of the biggest disappointments for me. Vessery's ability would synergize well on the Rebel side, where practically every ship can target lock. But even then, when you're left with just Vessery, you have a 35+ point ship with an unusable pilot ability.
Overall, I don't know how Defenders will fit in after the Tie Advanced changes. While I field them often and enjoy playing them, I'm just not sold on their cost-efficiency in a 100 point list. You'd have to be crazy to field a Defender than Vader with advanced targeting computer. It's only saving grace is the canon slot, because I'm not convinced that the Defender brings much else. The white k-turn is nice, but I feel we're charged too high of a premium for it. And its green dial is just pathetic.
You can have Vader and vessery in 100 points with a second advanced generic, that's plenty of target locks for vessery, Vader and HLC vessery provide a high ps punch, you take swarm tactics on Vader and your hitting hard and fast.
And who knows what the unravelled pilots will give us.

100 points.
Vader + Predator + EU + ATC
Steele + ATC
Vessery
Hm. Could work.

That list is giving me a priapism and I want to field it.
Chances are that we will probably prefer fielding just another of the new Advanced pilots in place of Vessery, having thus more room for upgrades, talents etc etc...
One of the unspoiled advanced pilots may have an ability that sinergizes with the rest of the squadron... Instead of all the squadron having to sinergize with Vessery.
I, personally, can't wait to field Stele/Vessary/someone else as a combo!
Vessery, VI, HLC = 43
Stele, ATC = 28
2 Academy Pilots = 24
5 points left for an EPT/Mod on somebody. Predator and 2 points for Initiative (or Obsidians) doesn't look too bad.
You get a heavy fighter, a medium fighter, and 2 APs. Stele is sort of the obvious target because his TL boosts two ships, but at the same time, he's almost as tough as Vessery, for a lot fewer points. He won't go down quick, and it means Vessery gets to pump HLCs into someone for a couple turns without being bothered.
Predator works well on mareek I used it Wednesday and it came in handy.

I think you can make that a more general statement of "Predator works well with ATC".
At least until one of the unspoiled Advanced pilots proves to be the exception.
I ran this last night vs a 999 squint/adv list, ended with a draw since Vessery vs Fel was taking 45+ minutes of nothing happening.
[33] Vader, Predator, TIE/x1, ATC
[36] Vessery, VI
[31] Maarek, Predator, TIE/x1, ATC
Brath needs some serious Fleet Officer support to be viable I think, between ATC, FCS Sigmas, and the many FCS OGP variants Vessery is very easy to operate. The one thing I'd change with that list is giving him EU somehow, he seems to be tankier than the Advanced and being able to chase end-game ships like Fel may be where he falls short.
Well yeah you could say honestly predator is just a good ept in general.
Vader with pred and a focus is going to lay down all kinds of pain when combined with EU.

Without a cannon, I don't see what Vessery brings to that list that the unspoiled PS 8 Advanced with the same load out as the other two wouldn't do just as well.
