New Maneuver (homage to Paul Heaver)

By Parravon, in X-Wing

My estimation skills tend to fall on the wrong side most days and I land on the rock by a millimetre.

I'm not sure how it's pretentious. It's not like he coined the term himself. THAT would be pretentious. :)

Correct me if I am wrong here oneway.

EDIT: changed love to adoration...that word is closer to my intent

I pulled a Heaver (you could say I "Heaved") in a recent game using the Firespray. My opponent moved two X-Wings in front of my ship, and the only way I could avoid both their firing arcs was by flying between them. I banked forward and placed the Firespray within 2mm of both ships, somehow staying out of both their arcs and catching one of them in my auxiliary arc. My opponent was caught completely off guard by this -- he had thought there wasn't enough room for the Firespray to fit between the ships.

Now that is the very definition of "pulling a Heaver". Being able to place a ship where your opponent thinks it's not going to fit, denying him an attack and still leaving you with one! I'd say your opponent was the one that got "Heaved".

OUTSTANDING!!

In like the term pulling an eric much more...kinda makes me want to be Eric...

I think he just commenting on the near diety like respect and love Paul Heaver (peace and blessings be upon him) gets around here...I see it all the time.

Correct me if I am wrong here oneway.

I wasn't attempting to put Mr H. on a pedestal. He's a good player. That's undeniable with two World titles under his belt. But watching the 2014 final, I felt sorry for Morgan. His dice seemed to abandon him just when he needed them.

I don't doubt your intentions nor do I doubt his skill as a player...but didn't he himself admit he got lucky in this instance?

Im just commenting is all...you can call it whoever you and your group wish...I'll probably call it pulling an Eric.

In the very same game as the Firespray Heaving, my uncloaked TIE Phantom was attempting to catch some X-Wings with a tricky maneuver. The ships were arranged something like this:

[DSR]

<P

X1>

X2>

P = Phantom, X# = X-wing, DSR = Dumb Space Rock

The Phantom couldn't do a K-turn because he was already stressed, and the Dumb Space Rock was blocking my escape route. I set a left bank maneuver, hoping to end my move in contact with X1. In this position, neither X-wing would be able to fire at me and I would have a point-blank shot at X2. When I measured out the movement, the Phantom actually touched X2 first, leaving me with no targets and an angry Luke Skywalker with Marksmanship pointing right at me. The Phantom did not live to make another piloting mistake, and much face-palming was heard throughout Imperial High Command.

Sometimes you do the Heaving, and sometimes you get Heaved.

Shake, you got it on the nose my friend. Also! Though.. He wasn't the first to do it, typically naming something after someone is usually done when they are the first.. I know we will never know who that really is. So that is why I have said what I have.. That's all.

Not once, but multiple times my friend Carlsen has K-turned through an asteroid (hoping to do something totally unexpected to throw off his opponent). He then usually has to fly through the asteroid again to clear stress!

Now my group calls it the 'Carlsen Maneuver'

I too am guilty of this. Every time I pull a K-Turn with a millimeter between men and the rock, I say I 'Pulled a Heaver'!
