Thoughts on strategy and use? How would you fly this?

I thought about dropping all the ties to AP and tricking out Vader a bit more, but wanted the thematic Black squadron escort for Vader.

Another possibility, even more thematically sound, even though I have to give up PTL on Vader:

TIE ADVANCED: · Darth Vader (29)

TIE/x1 (0)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

TIE FIGHTER: · Backstabber (16)

TIE FIGHTER: · Mauler Mithel (17)

Does Vader really need Push The Limit? If he's staying in formation with his two wingmen, he's not going to be barrel-rolling much, so you're talking Focus, Target Lock and Evade every turn (which is admittedly impressive) - don't expect to need to target lock every turn, as with the Advanced Targeting Computer you're retaining your lock, not spending it.

You could easily drop PTL, Wingman and DTF for another three BSP's

Trying to stick with a 'storyline' squad

(29) Darth Vader

(0) TIE x1

(1) Advanced Targeting Computer

(3) Predator

(3) Hull Upgrade

(17) Mauler Mithel

(16) Backstabber

(16) Dark Curse

(14) Black Squadron Pilot

(1) Veteran Instincts

I ran a modified version of this list yesterday (didn't proxy the new stuff because it was a demo game).

TIE FIGHTER: Academy Pilot (12)

TIE FIGHTER: · Mauler Mithel (17)

TIE FIGHTER: · Backstabber (16)

TIE ADVANCED: · Darth Vader (29)

It works fairly well, but will be better with the new stuff. I run the APs out in front to block and cause havoc, the named black squadron trio then swoops in for kills.

I found that with only 6 ships, the list seemed to suffer from a dearth of red dice (remember please that I rarely fly swarms, I don't own enough TIE Fighters).

Indeed. There's a reason people fixate on howlrunner, and it's not just because she looks good in a TIE pilot suit.

TIE fighters can take B-wings and even X-wings down with concentrated fire, but against other three agility fighters or ships with evade-spawning upgrades, two dice feels a little weak.

That's why I like Mithel and Backstabber so much - their special rules make them feel more like bargain - basement interceptors...
