Decimator lists..

By Papamambo, in X-Wing

I haven't had much luck yet flying the Decimator. Not sure if it's because it is always the number one target on the field and goes down to concentrated fire or if it's something else. So I've been toying with a few different ideas. Here goes..

List 1

VT-49 DECIMATOR: · Commander Kenkirk (44)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Tactical Jammer (1)

· Ysanne Isard (4)

· Moff Jerjerrod (2)

TIE FIGHTER: Academy Pilot (12)

List 2

Tactical Jammer (1)

· Ysanne Isard (4)

· Mara Jade (3)

TIE FIGHTER: Academy Pilot (12)

TIE FIGHTER: Academy Pilot (12)

TIE INTERCEPTOR: Saber Squadron Pilot (21)

Push The Limit (3)

List 3

TIE INTERCEPTOR: Saber Squadron Pilot (21)

Push The Limit (3)

VT-49 DECIMATOR: · Commander Kenkirk (44)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Tactical Jammer (1)

· Ysanne Isard (4)

· Moff Jerjerrod (2)

So as you can see, they're all variations on the same list type. List 1 has the 4 TIE's, list 2 and 3 swap out 2 TIE'S for a Squint, and one list swaps out Jerjerrod for Mara..

Which do you think will work best?

If you put tactical jammer on the decimator then you're probably using a 50-point ship to protect a few 12-point ships when it should be the other way around. VI also seems to be rather pointless on Kenkirk as he won't be shooting before whisper can cloak and has no means of arc-dodging even a lower PS ship.

If you want to run Kenkirk with some TIEs I would suggest the following: http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Galactic%20Empire&d=v3!s!98:18,-1,102,46,103,-1:-1:3:;10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:

It leaves you 4 points to play with (you can upgrade an AP to backstabber or dark curse) and here Kenkirk will stress out phantoms to prevent them from cloaking as well as boost out of arcs in the combat phase once you get a damage card as you can activate PtL with Isard. With this list the goal of the APs is to muddy up the enemy formation while the decimator picks things off from the side.

Of the three named Decimator pilots, Kenkirk is my least favorite, as his ability really only makes the Decimator a bit more defensive. It makes a ship that isn't very defensive at all to an 'okay' defensive ship. In my experience with the Big-D I prefer a much more offensive build.

Any reasons to go with Kenkirk aside from the defensive aspects? I think you'll find that the extra die really doesn't add all that much in the end. Especially when it rolls a blank.

I completely agree with Ed. One die can mitigate a little, but not enough, particularly on such a big target. You might say the Falcon with C3P0 is similar to this with Isard, but the Falcon's a little more unpredictable with the dial. I'm terrified of using the self-stressing builds, so this is only one way to use the ship, but I feel like Engine Upgrade is your best defense. Since the thing is so fast it's about getting past them and making them choose between turning after you or going after the other ships. So clearly I like Chiraneau the best. I want to like Oicunn, but I'm a little afraid of the low pilot skill losing me important shots and the chance to get out of arc.

My list that seems to be not terrible is Oicunn determination, Omg shuttle HLC tactical jammer, and another shuttle without the jamner.

My favorite Decimator is Kenkirk. Here's what I've been running:

Kenkirk w/ Push the Limit, Gunner, Ysanne Isaard, Mara Jade, Engine Upgrade

Academy Pilot x 3

TOTAL: 99

Good defense, good offense.

Great setup for Kenkirk but I find Rebel Captive a little more useful. I swear I forget Mara Jade at least once a game too. Its fun to boost off the Isard evade and catch people napping.

I would run Determination, Ysard, Captive, Gunner on him. Maybe Engine on top of that.

If you go defensive, go really defensive! Gunner is there to guarantee some hits against elusive opponents like Corran, Fel or enemy Phantoms, but also against Enemy free evades like C3PO or Ysard.
