I probably already asked this but do you think a defender is worth getting? me and my opponent use just small ships if that has any effect. it looks nice but it feels like the maneuver dial is just only doing the white k-turn and straights which sounds kind of boring compared to tie interceptors and such, and the pilot abilities aren't great
tie defender
get one at least, there are very good cards in it, and the generics are kinda overcosted, but the elites are good. (I feel like rexler is like garven though, just always want to use, but never comes through that great) Vessory on the other hand is a beast, and has probably one of the best abilities for imperials. (soontir and Darth beat him out though, whispers kinda tough to call)
I love the defender and field it often. In my opinion it is a ship with no weaknesses. The white k-turn assures that 9 times out of 10 you are going to be getting a shot off. I usually run Vessery naked and at the most with an Ion as my go to defender. He can do consistent 3 hits a turn when you use his ability. An ion works very well on the defender. Line up an ion hit and 4 white k behind and destroy.
I'm a fan, so yes. But, it varies from person to person.
Brath's good, but Vessery's beast mode.
And Predator's one of the best EPTs around.
If all you do with the defender is k turn your going to lose bad.
It's a tough ship that excels at fighting at range with cannons, you move in slow the first couple of turns tearing down defences then use its banks and turns to Finish the job.
Vessery is an excellent char paired with other defenders and soon with tie advanced able to put down highly accurate fire, rexler is great against large ships able to deal multiple crits that can cripple decimator and falcon alike.
The PS1 defenders can be used effectively with the right build, Jonas with two HLC defenders puts out horrific levels of firepower, paired with the firespray they can catch the enemy in their arcs every turn.
Just don't use it as an interceptor that's not it's role.
I am pretty new to the game, but it seems that Vessery can be a big time game changer. I also think it can be worth the 33 points to field the cheapest Defender with Ion cannons, and use him as a bruiser and demobilizer while your other ships flank or support the Defender. Just my initial reactions to studying the ship a bit and seeing it in action once or twice.
Yep, you should buy one. Flying the defender is very different from other ships (well, as different as things can get with maneuver templates, anyway). You end up approaching dogfights differently, and that can help make you a better overall player.
I like 'em.
They're very expensive and the elites have abilities that you have to build around
I personally wouldn't bother unless you have a specific plan to include them (or if you want predator, which is a baller ept)
Edited by ficklegreendiceDefinetly worth getting.
It's not a ship for everyone so I suggest trying one at first and if you like it, get a second or even a thrid one. If you end up not liking it, at least you will have the Predator EPT card that come with it.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking that the ship is a one trick pony. It has access to every maneuver except the 1 straight. It's not because the k-turn is white that you must do it at every occasion and it's not because the maneuver is red that you must avoid it like the plague. Having only straight green hurts it but it has the defense and hit point to survive a turn or two without action and the 5 straight is green so, you can always get the hell away to destress if you prefer and then do a k-turn to get back into combat next turn. Like WickedGrey said, flying a Defender force you to think differently and that can only help you get better in the game.
Now, since you only use small base ship, I would definetly recommand you to get one. A lot of people don't like Defenders just because they consider the Firespray better for the ''same'' price. If the Firespray is out of your table, the Defender is the only ship that can serve as a tank with a cannon in the Empire.
I love this ship and Predator is the best EPT in the game.
I like too, I try to use in a little swarm, three of them, greettings.
does it work well paired with interceptors that act as flankers? maybe a tie or something depending on points? and if so what pilot and upgrades would work well for that? was thinking soontir fel + ptl and idk who else. I like kir kanos somewhat but idk if someone else would be better

I composed a squad of the cheapest Defender, plus two moderate-skilled Interceptors and an Obsidian Squadron TIE. I think there's potential with that squad. I haven't played a game with it yet, but it's a good combo of speed and attack power along with all ships having 3 agility, and 4 ships opens up opportunity for some different tactics.
