The art of Bullying someone...

By Gryphynx, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

No one said that walking the path of Ignore is easy! :D

I was willing to help out initially, but once I realized that he was just trying to patch issues he created with his "rules interpretations" from the beta and that he wasn't interested in how the game was meant to be run I lost interest.

Finally got through reading your own threads and I don't really see much "bullying". Now I'm not going to lie I've had some heated disagreements with others on the forums before some time back over rule interpretations and what not but not once was I bullying nor felt that others disagreeing with me was bullying, instead both of us just consulted the rules Gods at FFG and got our official answer. Point being is if your going to talk about rules and how they should be run or especially if they should be houseruled you're almost always going to get people that disagree and while some of the comments where a bit harsh I'd say they weren't really that bad and worse yet they only really came after you egged people on by disregarding all criticism by simply saying "you're wrong" and giving no further justification. Compound that by the fact that you where arguing from a basis on a model of the beta vs those disagreeing with you going from the completed version of the game and you are making your position even more frustrating to those trying to explain how the full rules don't work with your changes.

I've been on a lot of forums and honestly this is one of the far more civil ones out there.

So in short, you put your idea on a public forum to be discussed, you then disregarded all discussion, and then where surprised when people reacted frustrated? Welcome to the Internet, if you can't handle the kid gloves here then you seriously need to grow a thicker skin.

The only person I ever ignored was ErikB, and only for a bit when he was at his most frustrating. He was never, at his worst, insulting or unpleasant to me. (And I un-ignored him for precisely the reason Desslok said, above).

I am personally okay with hearing dissent and differences of opinion. I'm kinda radical, so I expect it. On this forum, discussions are usually civil and fairly polite. I am happy to debate, even with those whom I rarely seem to see eye-to-eye like Donovan. Even if we seldom agree, I respect his input and experience, and try to learn from him if I can. Nothing wrong with considering a dissenting opinion. This is a broad religion, right? :)

Anyway, I'd like to see a reply from Gryphynx. He made a lengthy comment, throwing out some pretty serious allegations of 'bullying'. I think we replied politely and constructively for the most part. Now some people think it's just a wind-up, as we say in Britland. So if he's sincere, it would be nice for him to comment on what's been said - even if that was simply to say that he wanted to put the arguments behind us and start again afresh.

I simply cannot shake the feeling that you are not being honest in your posts. It just seems a bit too much like trolling to all of a sudden toss this pity grenade after your earlier antagonistic behaviour and then just watch what unfolds afterward from the side line. I'm not buying it.

Yeah, I didn't want to like this post, but the lack of acknowledgement makes it pretty clear.

Well I'm sure he's upset. He proposed some pretty big house rules, that I'm sure make a lot of sense to him and his interpretation of the only rules he's had access to, only to have them shot down. He was likely expecting lots of "Oh yeah, that totally fixes everything that was wrong with the game!"

That can be a hard thing about the modern gaming world. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've come of with some stupid-broken house rules in my day, and had to just play until a player found the loophole needed to exploit it, and then figure out how to correct it (NOT EASY). But then, back then there were no forums, or dev Q&As, or Podcasts, or really anything by way of support.

These days you can ask for feedback from any number of sources. But.... you also have to be ready for your brilliant idea to be raked across the coals and really scrutinized by people that really understand how the game works on a level you don't. If you can handle it you can become a better GM and run a better game faster because you won't have to make all those mistakes yourself. But not everyone is big enough to handle that.

On top of that it's Star Wars. So we attract a lot of people that are really dedicated to the setting on a deep (and sometimes unhealthy) level. So they have a lot of trouble comprehending that the game must be playable, and can't always be a perfect, detailed, accurate, representation of everything they ever read in a novel, comic book, video game, ect. Not to mention "certain point of view" where the game already IS a perfect, detailed, accurate, representation.....just from a different perspective.

Check the date/time stamp when he created this thread. Then, check the date/time stamps in his latest posts over in his Character Generator thread (they are hours later, including a post this morning). Yet no response here.

It's unfortunate. Silence speaks volumes, especially with situations like this. I believe he has abandoned this topic, like the others because we have not responded how he was expecting. May as well let it die and move forward.

Maybe he is taking the time to make a considered response?

Very true. Suppose I am being a bit negative in my assumptions. That said, like others have mentioned, there is a sort of feeling about that he has ditched this topic as well.

I'm Surprised, And Pleased You Started This Topic to Help Air Out The Laundry, Sort Of Speak.

As For What Happened On The Excel Post I Can't Say. I Am Not A Fan Of The Excel Program, And Like Most Of Us Here, I Use Oggdads Program.Im Happy With It And Have No Desire To Change, So I Haven't Been Keeping Up On It. However, On Your House Rules Posts, I Can, Having Been Involved In That Topic.

.......

I'm curious. Why do you start every word with a capital letter? Usually it happends sometimes when I use my iPhone. It makes the text a bit of an annoying read though :)

As for this topic. I only remember the OPs posts as a bit stubborn. I think I replied a few times and then gave up, because it seemed futile.

As I understand, Miishelle has some kind of problem with her I-phone.

did. I called support and they fixed it! woot! dance time!

Yeah, she says as much in her sig.

Which is weird - I post here from iPhone, iPad and Safari on a Mac and none of those autocap everything. The holonet is weird sometimes...

Edit - well there's timing for you! Glad it's sorted anyway :)

I neither retract nor apologize for any statements I've made. The rules were bad, and the generator, while obviously the product of hard work, is mostly redundant. It's in the past, though. How he acts going forward will continue to form my opinions.

I tend to just imagine people look like their avatars - which makes desslok's posts particularly entertaining.

Maybe he is taking the time to make a considered response?

Being willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, I would agree. However here it is, what - three days on now? And yeah, no rebuttal to anything. So. . . .

Enjoy your self-persecution complex, dude. I'm done with you.

well, it has given this thread a chance to devolve. I mean, we went from talking about how we should be nice to each other, to cute boys. to what we think each other look like. without him, this has been kinda fun :)

so how is everyone doing?

so how is everyone doing?

Well, the Seahawks won - that's a good thing! So I guess, I can't complain.

(Full disclosure: not really a football fan. But its hard not to be happy with the rest of the city)

what?

*looks up with arms spread*

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

wait, its football season? who did they play? how are the Yankees doing?

Benefit of the doubt does only go so far. Going to be hard to take anything this guy says seriously in the future. You only get one chance to make a good first impression unless you change avatars, but even that doesn't work as Erik's multiple avatars have shown. The truth tends to come out. I'll respect other's opinions as long as they respect mine. You don't have to agree.

Between his house rules to fix his house rules and his punishing Dark side. Basically making Dark side users out to be idiots that can't tell the difference between a legitimate threat and a child. Jeez how did Palpitine take over the frikkin galaxy without going apeshit on some poor pageboy for disturbing his lunch? At the end of the day he doesn't seem to have much to contribute. That may change which is why I never ignore anyone, but we'll see.

LOL, too true.

"Your nerf burger, sir."

"Aaagggh! Bring me a grenade, will you? Take that!"

"G-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g!"

++It's for the Emperor.++

"What does that mean. Is he gonna spit in it?."

"No. It means he will make it extra good." ++Don't spit in the Emperor's burger.++

"I'll have a liter of cola."
