So according to the pre-order on Amazon the Star Viper costs £14.99, as opposed to £12.99 for the little interceptor who's name I can't spell. Wonder why that is.
Star Viper sosts an extra £2

Oops! Yeah!
Well, while I'm here: Amazon finally have all the first wave of Armada up for pre-order. I think they were missing the Nebulon B and one of the fighter packs before.

All y'all Brits, Auzies, Kiwi's, and others need to specifiy which country you're from when you make this sort of remark so us Yanks don't go rushing around Amazon looking for something that isn't there

Soz! Amazon.co.uk I'm talking about.
Are they not on Amazon.com yet? And if they are, is there no price difference? I kind-of assumed they'd be on Amazon.com at the same time as .co.uk if not before, and that the price difference would be similar.

I'm rather surprised myself, but nothing's on amazon.com right now. The core set was there at almost 50% off for a while about the end of December, but that lasted probably a week before they either sold out or realized what was going on. Right now a search won't even find the product unless you've got it in your order history.
Of the places you can find anything at a discount here in the states, Miniature Market has everything listed at about a third off, but sold out of the core set yesterday. Thankfully I was able to convice a few buddies to get the last two
That being said it's still a geat place to pick up the expansions. I have no idea what they charge for international shipping but would imagine they could be worked with. If you need the core itself, I was surprisesd to see it listed at about $62 USD on Barnes and Noble (US site) and I know they do international. That's the best deal I've seen on that since amazon.com

Yeah, I've read with jealousy about MM on these forums a lot!
Perhaps Amazon.com will update later today, just due to time zone differences. The core set was at half price here for about a week as well and is now unavailable, so it sounds like they are pretty closely linked. I put two pre-orders in while it was such a bargain: I doubt I'll need three of each of those ships, but at that price!

I know right? I was half tempted to get three, but ended up with two myself. I'm kinda thinking that will be perfect though. I've been debating how much of what to get, but if all the ships follow the trend we've seen from the last preview article I think I've got it figured out now. Since the expansion packs come with two titles, and the core comes with one for each ship, I figure I'll get just enough of each ship for all of them to have unique titles if that's how I wanted to run them. After that, we'll just have to see what I use.
For now though I'm thinking 3 VSDs, 3 CR90s, and 3 Nebulon Bs (2 ea from the core and one expansion of each), as well as 2 Gladiators, 2 Mk-IIs, and one of each of the fighter sets.
The fighters are the ones I anticipate more of later, but I need to see how many generic fighters they have. The pictures only show 8 cards, but that doesn't make sense because you can only field one of each of the unique pilots, so what happens if you buy two packs? I'm kinda hoping that later waves will have similar packs of the ships but new pilots. Right now the only way to get say 4 B-wings would be to get two packs, even though you only wanted 1/4 of the ships it came with, and that again only if they include enough generic cards like they typically do with X-Wing.

I don't think that you actually need as many untitled cards as many miniatures on table top. Bases of squadrons have damage dial, there is no upgrades for fighters, miniatures even have icons to reference abilities, and only named squadrons have tokens. I guess that you need squadron cards only for the reference... something like 1 card for 5 X-Wing, 1 card for Skywalker squadron. And I don't see that core set have 5 squadron cards per side as well, only 2 per side on images that we have.

You are forgetting that the bases are unique for hero squadrons (they have their name or picture on them), so you might not be able to run both of that type of ship as "generics" at least in a tournament setting unless you have enough alternate bases - thats the big question.
Re-looking at X-Wing, in the product shots they usually show all the components, including the alternate bases and cards.
In Armada, for the fighter squadrons they havent shown replacement bases to convert the heroes to generics (unless they are double sided like X-wing so they arent surplus), inwhich case they could be there and just we cant see the other side thats currently underneath. There looks to definitely be no extra cards though, so the only hope is that Armada has a rule for fighters that you only need a single card for each type of "generic" fighter, since they have no special abilities or evades to trigger and all the damage tracking is done on the fighter base?

That is indeed a happy correlation! I'm not sure I'll get two Gladiators and MK IIs, but then again I may be unable to resist!

This is something I am really concerned about: those stems the fighters are mounted on do not look all that stout. They have to rotate and stop/lock on current hit points -- at least well enough to stay there when fighters are being moved about. To change from hero to generic fighter, the stem /mast apparently has to come apart / "unstep," too...
Sounds like I will be breaking these by the bushel basket :-(

I think them not mentioning things sometimes is their way of pay back

Yeah thats why I'm hoping the fighter stands them selves are generic and all the hero stuff is on the card. Otherwise my TIE fighter squadrons are gonna be 80% none-mission capable lol

Im actually wondering if they might have been designed a bit more clever than that - with the "stem" slotting into the base like an X-wing stand does, and the stem doesnt actually rotate, rather that its simply the cardboard circle that can be turned to match the health under the fixed arrow.
Edit: Confirmed - Gencon video @ 15:19. TIE fighter squadron takes damage from the corvette and the FFG rep clearly just rotates the cardboard ring whilst the stem with the fighters stays still.
http://youtu.be/hrxO1t9wY10?t=15m19s
ALSO: Note when the rebel player attacks Howlrunner, that the demo game only has the hero cards for Howlrunner/Luke and then one single card to represent the TIE Fighters/X-Wings - even though there are multiple squadrons on the board
And from the "Assemble the fleet" preview http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=5281
Squadron Cards
As noted in our preview of the game’s fighter squadrons, each squadron can be fielded as a non-unique collection of starfighters, or as one led by an ace pilot. Your decision impacts the abilities, defense tokens (if any), and fleet cost of your squadron.
So yes, that would suggest that like X-Wing, the cardboard dials are reversable with a generic squadron on the back of the hero side
Awesome info, thanks for clearing up so many questions!
