Now somthing diffrent 2 ships I think we need in Armada

By player829067, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey all!

I know we have a wave 2 thread and I dream of stuff threads. Well here is kinda the same thing but with a twist I picked 2 ships. 1 Imperial and 1 Rebel that I think we need in Armada I of course included a short reason why and so forth I would like to challenge you to add a couple ships you would like to see as well with only catch: 1 ship is rebel 1 is the good gu....I mean Imperials :)

I've also included links to Starship class's of the Imperial and Rebels to help

Imperial Link: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Galactic_Empire_starship_classes

Rebel Link: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Rebel_Alliance_starship_classes

So here we go:

The Star Galleon Frigate

-Sure it's a cargo transport with teeth and thats it. But in a objective base game like Armada if you gotta go after somthing for a win why not make it worth it?

The DP20 Frigate a.k.a Corellian Gunship

-Compact gunship but Brigoon the rebels already have the corvette why do they need this?! Because it's all guns and engines. It can screen your heavier ships from fighters with it's heavy laser cannon armament or go in guns ablazing with missiles and turbo lasers to show the big Star Destroyers not to mess with the little guy ;)

I'll be unoriginal and join the crowd elsewhere that is clamoring for a 418 Immobilizer interdictor cruiser. I do think it should have special objective cards owing to its unique strategic (but not tactical) capabilities, but I don't really think they'll do anything as cool as what I might imagine - probably because they need to be more practical.

On the rebel side... ...I don't care as much. I guess the Mon Calamari cruises will be good. They're also somewhat inevitable. I'm just not as excited for that side as I am the Empire.

I hear ya Mikael I'm not overly excited for the Rebel side of the house. I was hoping we could use this thread to open up some good descusions on Armada ships as a whole somthing to help keep some of us from throthing at the mouth :)

As long as this gets in there somewhere;

...then I don't care which side it lands on. I guess going by the fluff it would be Imperial.

Anyways, Rebel ships I'd expect, going by the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series and Rebellion;

I'm all about the Dreadnoughts. I love those ugly beatsticks :D

If need be, theres a model maker that does them in almost exactly the right size, but i'd really rather get official FFG ones. I'm fairly hopeful they will appear at some point, alongside the Rebel Assault Frigate Mk1 (which was just a rebuilt Dreadnought).

I don't know if asking for a Katana Fleet non-unique title would be asking for too much, but that would be a pretty sweet piece of EU fan service. I'd imagine it would work similar to the IG-2000 title in X-Wing

For Imperials id like to see the Interdictor class because when I saw it in the movie as a child it xaught my eye and thought to myself now thats a cool looking star destroyer.....I just hope they do something for it in the game that plays to its abilities in some way without it making the ship not so desirable.

For Rebels need to see General Ackbar's ship. So i can yell out across the table "It's a trap!"

Epic mode with outbound flight ship! Just imagine 6 modified dreadnought cards and one core card...

Anyway back to the actual ships I want Allegiance class Star Destroyer, my favorite star destroyer design since i read Dark Empire. 2200 meters of raw firepower and armor.

and second ship for rebels also from Dark Empire! Mon Calamari MC90

How about the Gozanti for Imps? Interesting bird: has some offensive capability, carries fighters, and doubles as a freighter / priority transport.

As a loyal Imperial at heart, how about this little beauty for the Rebs ;)

The Reb MK'1 and the Dreadnoughts are kinda like smushed in face dogs and cats. Ugly high maintince but you love them even if everything can out run them or out fight them :) I do hope we see both in the game.

Not sure on the Gozanti but i like your idea for the Rebels lol

I never heard of the Allegiance before it looks like a Imperial SD with pimples lol But I stil wouldn't wanna face it thats for sure

The general consensus seems to be that everything included in the launch wave is either small or medium based. If so, that would make the Mon Cal MC80 and the Imperial-class Star Destroyer reasonable assumptions for the large bases... So it leaves the Rebels with a pair of small bases and a medium, and the Empire with two medium based craft.

Not that the base size means anything at all, but we also aren't yet directly familiar with what roles the existing ships will fall into. The Empire should probably get something as responsive as the CR-90, and I think the creation of the Raider Corvette for X-wing means it's only a matter of time until we see it in Armada. It already has an iconic Imperial 'wedge' shape, so I'd really like to see something on the board to break up all the triangles. So strictly in terms of lower command value ships, I think anything in addition to the Raider would also have to be in the small/medium base neighborhood... I like the Tartan-class patrol cruiser and Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser. They have a similar shape and either could likely be adapted into whatever role the Empire is lacking in (within the game), depending on which ship size FFG wants to make. (I keep mentioning base size because I imagine it becoming more important in the Empire depending on the long term relevance of Admiral Motti's ability.)

The Rebels I struggle with a little more. Between the Assault Frigate and the (hopefully!) MC80, I think that thematically, the Rebels are pretty well covered with "massive" cruisers. I think if you wanted them to have some element of a cohesive look to the fleet, you could use the MC40 light cruiser in an escort role - perhaps a 2 command support ship to the big stuff like the Assault Frigate or MC80. I really like having the Rebels rely on a lighter, faster fleet, so I like the Carrack cruisers as a fit for them as well. It also breaks up the almost "organic" look to the Mon Cal cruisers and similar bulb-like Assault Frigate so the the Rebels appear more irregular.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something about the Gozanti, and maybe its fatigue from the Imperial epic ship suggestions in X-wing, but it's just a ship that I don't see much appeal in. It just seems really small for Armada. Almost 3 times smaller than the CR90? I could just be entirely missing the boat on that one though! :)

Forgive my ignorance, but which movie had an Interdictor in it?

The Gozanti looks pretty cool on Rebels -- in an awkward, ugly duckling sort of way.

And it gives us some freighters for the Rebs pirates to shoot at

And it is about 1/3 rd the size of the CR-90. So mini would be roughly half that size. Maybe 2 to a pack?

Freighters to shoot at / defend. YT / Falcon series would probably be more iconic...

I think there are some good insights on the base size idea...

Rebels - Converted bulk freighters, with a card for a covert freighter as well.

Empire - Lancer class.

Other desires - CIS ships as Rebels. However I suspect FFG's licence only covers the original trilogy and EU. (No CIS / Republic, and no SW7).

Hehe, freighters to shoot at or do you mean, be shot at by?

If you guys are talking about medium sized ships, how about the Murian Transport or maybe even the Assault Transports from the old TIE Fighter sims?

Just not the cargo ferries -those things were damned ugly. :(
