Tactagorn Showcase Deck

By Teamjimby, in Strategy and deck-building

Since we have some time to kill until new content is released, I decided to start thinking about decks to make with the new cards. The only spoiled hero so far is Tactics Aragorn, so this deck is built around his strengths. It's primarily intended for 3-4 player games where it is paired with questing/support decks. This deck has enough firepower to kill every enemy, so the other decks just need enough defenders to survive an attack or two.

Total Cards: (53)

Hero: (3)
1x Hama (The Long Dark)
1x Mablung (The Nin-in-Eilph)
1x Aragorn (Lost Realm)

Ally: (18)
1x Beorn (Core Set)
3x Eagles of the Misty Mountains (Return to Mirkwood)
1x Gwaihir (Trouble in Tharbad)
3x Knight of Minas Tirith (Assault on Osgiliath)
1x Landroval (A Journey to Rhosgobel)
3x Vassal of the Windlord (The Dead Marshes)
3x Winged Guardian (The Hunt for Gollum)
3x Dunedain Hunter (Lost Realm)

Attachment: (21)
3x Dagger of Westernesse (The Black Riders)
3x Gondorian Shield (The Steward's Fear)
1x Horn of Gondor (Core Set)
3x Keeping Count (The Redhorn Gate)
3x Rivendell Bow (The Watcher in the Water)
3x Rohan Warhorse (The Voice of Isengard)
3x Spear of the Mark (The Morgul Vale)
2x Support of the Eagles (Return to Mirkwood)

Event: (14)
2x Feint (Core Set)
3x Foe-hammer (Over Hill and Under Hill)
3x Hands Upon the Bow (Shadow and Flame)
2x Quick Strike (Core Set)
2x Straight Shot (On the Doorstep)
2x Thicket of Spears (Core Set)

This deck takes full advantage of each hero's abilities. Mablung can either quest for 2 or defend for 4 with a Gondorian Shield. The standard combo only requires a warhorse and weapon on Hama. Optionally engage one enemy, block or feint, kill with Aragorn and Hama to get back feint and play foe-hammer. Engage another enemy with Aragorn's ability and kill him with Hama to get back the foe-hammer. Just from that you are getting +2 resources a turn from Mablung and +3 cards a turn with foe-hammer.

Knight of Minas Tirith and Dunedain Hunter let you get a resource during planning and give you the firepower to kill the 2nd and 3rd enemies. Hama should be killing 2 enemies a turn, so the first Keeping Count can go on him. Cycling Foe-Hammers should give you enough card draw to get a 2nd warhorse and 2nd keeping count, so Aragorn can easily be hitting for 10+ against 2 enemies a turn. At that point he should have a Rivendell Bow, so he can start using Hands Upon the Bow during questing to kill 1 enemy and pull down another enemy. This could easily clear 5+ threat out of the staging area and help questing significantly. Hama can then kill the 2nd enemy to recycle hands upon the bow. He can also use quick strikes to kill an enemy engaged with someone else then use his ability to bring over another enemy, effectively protecting the other players from 2 enemies with one card.

This should easily be an extra 2 resources a turn, if not 3-4. With all those resources the eagles become very affordable and thicket of spears cycling is doable without consuming all available resources. You only really need 1 weapon each on Aragorn and Hama and 1 shield on Mablung, so the extras can be discarded for Hama's ability. Straight shots are quest-dependent, but can be used to auto-kill enemies with 1 armor thanks to Tactagorn's passive armor reduction. If you do have a quest with low armor enemies, Hama can recycle straight shots to get maximum use. But most of the time you are better off attacking and engaging enemies anyway so you can get the extra resources and event cycling. For that reason I left out Mighty Prowess and other direct damage cards.

I'm not the kind of guy that uses proxies, but I know some people are. Feel free to give this a try and let me know how it goes. I'm curious which cards you might take out to get it down to 50. And don't say Keeping Count. That card rocks!

I'm a strong proponent of the new Aragorn's and Eomer's pairing myself, especially when the latter rides on Firefoot. I built a deck with those two together and the body count the leave in their path is insane.

I like both ideas, but TJ's sounds more synergistic. It seems like it'll definitely need to be paired with some type of questing deck in order to be viable, though, which is part of the reason I haven't gotten around to trying it. I don't want to take the time to build a questing deck to go with it. )

Never said my suggestion is better. Just that the new Aragorn is the address to Eomer's most serious issue: the danger to remain inactive in case of lack of enemies. The horselord thrives in the midst of combat and Aragorn provides victims aplenty ready for slaughter.

Mablung is the obvious second hero, but Eomer could definitely be the third hero. I also thought about Legolas, but he doesn't synergize as well. Eomer would be best if you are able to engage 2 enemies during planning/encounter so you can trigger Firefoot's ability.

Another issue with Eomer is that Firefoot requires you to attack alone, so you can't use Aragorn's ability at the same time. Aragorn could probably finish off the second enemy that got the extra damage placed on it though.

Stumbled upon this recently and wanted to try it out, though my eagles are tied up in another deck that I didn't want to deconstruct to use this one. So I tried to go a little more Ent themed. Worked out quite well, though the Ents do have a little less punch than 'Eagles of the Misty Mountains' they make for good defenders to buff up 'Booming Ent'. I've tried it out now in 2-player games over the Road Darkens. The only issue I've had so far is I sometimes don't draw 'Treebeard' fast enough, though if that happens I've used 'Hama' to discard the 'Wandering Ents' for something more useful at the time. I've only made slight alterations to the deck to account for the loss of the eagles.

a deck with Aragorn (tactic) / Sam / Merry could be a war machine in multiplayers games.

2x Rohan warhorse on Merry.

Merry, Aragorn and Sam attack and destroy an engaged ennemy

Response from Aragorn : engage a new ennemy

Response from Merry : ready Aragorn

Response from Rohan warhorse : ready Merry

If newest ennemy engaged have a higher threat, response from Sam : Boost Sam and ready Sam

Next !
