Trying to come up with a non-turret non-Phantom list based around Kath

By DarkFather, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all;

I just won a local tourney today with Chiran/Echo and I feel it's time to retire my Phantoms and Turrets, at least for a while. I have a tourney coming up in 2 weeks time, and I am trying to come up with some sort of 'control' list using Kath Scarlet. the Kath build I'd like to go with is...

Kath Scarlet

Rebel Captive

Ion Cannon

Outmaneuver

47 points

I am completely stuck on what to add to her. Like I said, I'd like to do some sort of controlling (Stress, Ion, etc) but still keep my damage outlay at least decent.

Any ideas?

Cheers

How about Brath, Lone Wolf, Ion Cannon, Hull Upgrade?

With a further Seismic Charge and Shield Upgrade on Kath.

Actually drop the Captive, add Tactician, you decide who to stress by attacking them, not by them attacking you. How dare they attack you anyway.

Brath being higher PS isn't that bad in this case. It'll make it all the easier for Kath to score hits. They won't want to alter her attack dice because of the stress and they are scared of Brath's ability so they will modify dice then. Again, you're dictating when dice will be modified.

You might even think about using Opportunist?

First list I ever took to a tournament was Kath with Rebel Captive and Ion Cannon. I called it "Troll Three Times" because Kath was your control piece, 2 Academies for annoying blockers, and Turr Phennir ducking out of arcs. It was a lot of fun and I took second place with it, losing to a TIE swarm in the final (though I did beat the same swarm round 1).

I like the thought process here. I would prefer to run more than two ships overall however. Maybe...

Kath + Tactician + Ion Cannon + Outmaneuver

Rexlar Brath + Ion Cannon + Lone Wolf

Academy Pilot

100 Points

Thoughts?

Of course, I won't just jump at the first two replies, plus I am trying to work out ideas myself. But thank you both for the thoughts so far.

Cheers

I started out by first adding an AP, that is always a good choice, I just took it out again to further shore up the heavy hitters. But that certainly looks like a solid list.

Kath + Predator + Rebel Captive

Soontir + PTL + Target CPU

Omicron + Vader crew

99pts

Something like that has been on my "consider playing" list.

I used this to good effect recently:

Kath Scarlet (37)

Marksmanship (3)

Tactician (2)

Proton Bombs (5)

Howlrunner (18)

Swarm Tactics (2)

Dark Curse (16)

Stealth Device (3)

Academy Pilot (12)

Total: 99

Marksmanship is excellent with Kath's innate ability, and if you can get them at range two it makes a great double stressor. It helps to limit PtL Corran and Dash's monstrous boosting, or Soontir / Cloaked Whisper.

The TIEs can be whatever you want for the points, but I find PS8 Kath to be great. The maneuverability of the TIEs allows for a scrum to develop and then Kath can drop the proton bomb without any threat of critting your own TIEs.

I try hard as i can to get EU on any version of the bounty hunter. Opens up the play are really well and guards against its massive blindspots

How about this, i'm going to try to run it next week to see how it fairs.

Basically Kath with Rebel Captive is a minor counter to Phantoms. The proton bomb is there to make people cautious about manoeuvring behind her. (plus nothing is better than hitting a Phantom or E-wing with it and having them flip the direct hit up), priceless. Engine Upgrade (Like Cubby said) halves the blind spot. Soontir is a super flanker and Dark curse... well I never build a imperial list without this badboy. For 16 points he has a wicked ability that nerfs quite a lot of actions and abilities. Plus he tends to demorilize my opponents. "Okay he only has one Tie left... **** it's Dark Curse".

Some other ways I could see this build is when Scum comes out, take out the Proton bomb and give Soontir Autothrusters and Stealth device.

Before they release Scum, you could drop the Proton Bomb to Seismic and give Soontir a Targeting Comp (Have had lots of success giving this modification to him). This would also give you a 98 point intiative which is good in some cases. (Perhaps builds running Echo).

On Kath you could swap predator out for PTL or Daredevil. (Daredevil is always fun and since you have the boost action you don't suffer the damage. gets rid of the blind spot almost entirely, though it takes your action). You could also swap Rebel Captive for a Rec Spec.
