Clrification would be appreciated.
If losing the ship with your commander on it is a defeat condition, then having multiple commanders on seperate ships would give you nice redundency.

I think losing your commander is just a victory point boost for your opponent, rather than an out-and-out defeat.

Another reason two commanders might not be a thing actually
There's been some discussion on this elsewhere, but I'm actually more curious about the commanders abilities persisting after the command ship has been destoryed. Has there been a final answer on that?

Short answer: no, we have no official clarification
However, haven't we heard somewhere that killing the Admiral's ship gives gives bonus VP's? If so, can we get a source on that?

I would assume not but you never know
I don't think he's worth any more than his points cost, but he's gonna have to be put on a ship, and bump that ships cost considerably, so in a way your right.
I do not believe you will have access to more than one commander simply because of how hard their abilities would stack on the entire fleet
I think that between commander, ship and possible objective, killing the commander byn destroying his ship will probably be a victory lap for whoever, just because of how many VP he accumulates because of it.
If you played your objective right and selected one that allows yuo to gain extra VP for destroying a ship and you select the commander's ship for your attentions, you should rake it in.
