What do you think works best in a play-by-forum setting -- homebrew adventures, or published? I worry that the slow pace of PbP means we'd never get through a published module other than the beginners' games. But homebrew modules are perhaps better at creating a coherent story arc than I am.
Possibilities for for published modules: I'm thinking maybe something shorter, like "Dead in the Water," might be realistic at the PbP pace. (I've already GMd the beginners' games multiple times, and played "Long Arm of the Hutt" once, so I'm ready for something different.) But my guess is that "Onslaught" would be more interesting. I've GMd part of "Beyond the Rim," and I enjoyed that a lot. Any advice which of these might work best for PbP?
On homebrew, I've thought of something like "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" set in "A New Hope." "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern" is a play about two minor characters from "Hamlet" who live their own story as "Hamlet" proceeds in the background. In Star Wars terms, my party would make its own adventure, but in the shadow of the familiar story from the very first Star Wars movie. So they might start as bounty hunters chasing Han, or droids trying to find 3PO, or a rebel pilot on Tatooine who clashed with Luke in school, or whatnot. That might be too railroad-ish an idea, I don't know. If the characters choose not to follow Luke/Han/Obi-wan, they might still bump into the main characters later on in their adventure.
Which sort of game would you rather play in if you were joining a PbP game?
