Chewbo list ideas

By Iskander4000, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello everyone, I recently acquired both YTs and am looking to fly them for the first time this weekend in casual play. I typically run rebel lists of either 3 named or 4-5 unnamed pilots, so this will be a new experience for me. After doing some research here I have come up with the following three "Chewbo" lists (none of which I can truly take credit for, since the inspiration all came from looking at others' squads). Any feedback would be great!

Chewbo 1. Very offence-oriented. I'm a little worried about what happens once Chewie starts taking hits though.

Chewbo 2. Defense oriented, and if I don't like Lando's gamble I can use PTL for an extra evade. Leebo loses Dash's ability but gains an extra focus token.

Chewbo 3. The lack of Outrider is intentional; from the current meta it seems that Imp players try to take down the 2400 as soon as possible so this build beefs up Chewie.

Let me know what you think! I love that there are so many ways to build a good squad, and I'm sure that once I've played a few games I'll develop my own tastes. Also note that I currently do not own A-wing, Tie-interceptor, Lambda, Decimator, or Tantive (so no C-3PO).

I've been running the following and have yet to lose with the following Leebacca list....

Leebo + Wingman + Recon Spec + Mangler Cannon (48)

Chewie + PTL + Recon Spec + 3PO + MF title (52)

I know the giving Determination to Leebo is the GAP but I like bucking the trend.

Sadly I do not own 3PO or a mangler cannon, though the dual recon specs sound pretty useful.

No one owns a mangler cannon yet it's not been released yet uhave to proxy the card, if it's casual will whomever ur play against mind?

Only use the unreleased stuff for casual OP nights only, nobody seems to care so long as the build conforms to the rules.

I love Chewbo, I hope you enjoy flying it as much as I do.

I'm not a fan of the lists you've suggested, I prefer option 2 out of the bunch. I don't think ptl is the best ept for chewie, I'd suggest predator is better in most cases. If you want multiple tokens roll jan ors and recce spec, reliably gets you a focus and evade every turn. With a predator reroll and a focus he should put out reliable damage. Lone wolf could gel nicely here too.

I started with;

Chewie, predator, gunner, title (51)

Leebo, predator, outrider, HLC (49)

It worked pretty well, use Chewie to chaperone Leebo and protect his donut. Reliable damage and a good natural toughness.

I have also played it this way;

Chewie, predator, c3p0, title (49)

Leebo, lone wolf, recce spec, outrider, HLC (51)

Chewie is tougher at the expense of gunner, I found this took an adjustment to my play style as I had to fly separately to get mileage out of lonewolf. Lonewolf + recce spec is beautiful when you set the conditions for it to work. It's different, but I'm not convinced it was an improvement on the original.

Other things I'd like to try include mercenary copilot on Leebo, the mangler cannon (not convinced it will be better than the HLC, but it warrants trialling), experimental interface and marksmanship on Leebo, jan and recce spec on chewie and tac jammer on chewie, you'll sense a theme about increasing crits, I think it's a must in the 2 ship meta, especially against decimators.

However you fly it, I hope you have fun with Chewbo, two sidekicks stealing the show, good times.

Chewbacca (Predator, Gunner, C-3PO, Millenium Falcon)

Leebo (Determination, HLC, Recon Spec)

99 points

though i am steering clear of the current meta i have seen the following list flown well

chewie+LW+c3PO + title

Leebo+det+r2d2+HLC+title=99

great damage mitigation

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I guess there really isn't a reason why I can't try proxying for casual play. GrantOD, it sounds like Leebo did well even without Determination?

Looking forward to trying these out!

Iskander4000, I've never actually run Leebo with determination, I admit the synergy is obvious and it can definitely pay dividends. I think there was a tournament in Melbourne a week back where a top 8 game, maybe even the final, was won by leebo after he took two crits on two health and tossed them both with deternmination! outrageously lucky.

I've found that Leebo tends to be the first ship to die, if your opponent is smart it should be the case. Leebo has the bigger gun, you can't let a 360 HLC run rampant all game. I've always felt that I should focus on his offence and try to block with chewie. So lets throw some passive abilities on Leebo and see how that pans out:

Chewie, Predator, Jan Ors, Recce Spec (50)

Leebo, Determination, HLC, Outrider, C3PO (50)

Should be a tough nut to crack in limited time, chewie with both tokens for one action and predator should be consistent and tough, Leebo with C3PO and the ability to toss crits should survive a bit longer, but I think I'll miss predator on him.

How do you get the most out of Threepio on Leebo? I would be very conflicted about going for the guaranteed single, or gambling for multiples, and I feel like I would make the wrong decision several times per game and regret the upgrade in hindsight.

Other than that, I like your build, and have tried it myself (but with RecSpec instead of C-3P0).

I won a recent store tourney with a offensive version of Bobacca (the slang I stubbornly prefer to Chewbo or Leebacca ;) )

Leebo (Predator, HLC, RecSpec, Outrider)

Chewbacca (Predator, RecSpec)

It doesn't have the damage mitigation of other builds, but the dual Predators can almost win you games by themselves. You absolutely melt low PS swarms. RecSpec doesn't seem that defensive on a 1-agility ship, but it frequently saved me a point or two of damage per round that I would have otherwise eaten (or had to spend C-3P0 or an evade on).

Gibarian, Whilst I can't disagree enough about the naming convention, I tend to agree with your last point, thats why I haven't weened myself of predator yet! I've got as far as lonewolf and recce spec on Leebo.

In line with the suggestions above, I think a more defensive Leebo warrants trialling though. Sticking with the conventional wisdom of C3PO on 1 agi ships, maybe this instead?

Chewie, Predator, C3PO, Title, Tactical Jammer (50)

Leebo, determination, HLC, Outrider, Recce Spec (50)

I like that build. I'm also excited for the Scum release and the Mangler Cannon, because it will eliminate the donut hole and give the builds a few more points to play with.

First one I'll try is:

Chewbacca (Predator, RecSpec, Jan Ors, Tactical Jammer)

Leebo (Predator, Mangler Cannon, RecSpec, Outrider)

Chewie gets to evade and focus in the same round without the customary stress of doing that via PTL. Leebo can also benefit from Jan's evade if he needs it. And there's room for both of them to keep Predator.
