FFG, you are putting the cart before the horse.

While it's great to see IA Regionals will be occuring, FFG still hasn't released event rules for IA to begin with.

As an event organizer at a LGS, I can't really sell the owner on applying for the event without knowing the logistics it will entail.

Map set up and breakdown in this game can be time intensive and additionally a number of players have brought up the fact that they are not inclined to be pulling out map tiles in an event setting for fear of mixing up or losing them, as they are not something you can replace.

I agree, would help a lot if we had tourney rules. However, I am certain my FLGS will apply regardless of what they end up being. It would be nice if we had the rules sooner rather than later, so we can prepare though =).

I'm sure alot of stores will apply regardless. But it's very odd to ask for stores to sign up with no real idea of what the event will involve other then Skirmish games of some sort.

People worried over losing tiles is a concern that can be fixed just like asteroids in x-wing. If your mission cards are used then your tiles are used.

In X-wing a lost asteroid isn't as expensive nor as necessary to replace though

I likely will use a printing service to create copies of the skirmish maps. Though it may just be for me and not enough to outfit my LGS.

First of all odds are only top stores will only get this. Most of those stores can handle the size of a big crowd for regionals. I think it will all work out in the end.

As far as league play you can just setup maps before hand since odds are there wont be more than 8-12 people at a local tournament.

how do you know these will be legal? I just think its too costly for my like and I am pretty sure I can get them cheaper than most people.

Why wouldn't they be? Given that they'd just be a picture of the legal map itself. I'd say I should be more worried about copyright issues. But given that they'd be for my own use, not sold, and only possible because I've purchased the game; I doubt that me an issue. Cost may be.

FFGs track record for allocating Regionals is a bit suspect depending on which games you've played. Last year they stated they'd use Store Championships as a baramator for who gets a Regional, and then awarded the Regionals before most SCs were completed. In some cases to stores that didn't even hold SCs, or had issues running thiers.

Not like there are SCs for this game yet, but you see my point. If FFG wants players lobbying thier store to hold events, then event rules are rather important. So everyone knows what they are actually getting in to.

Plenty of stores applied for events for Conquest before it even came out. I am sure plenty will apply for this too. This game is very popular so no reason for stores not to want to get this event

I have a pad of graph paper with 1" grid that measures around 30" by 40" that I picked up at Office Depot. Works great to draw skirmish maps on. We've even been using it for custom maps. I think the pad came with 50 or so sheets but would be a pretty cheap investment to reproduce all of your skirmish maps on for a tournament (other than the time taken to draw the maps).
