Alternative to the Lambda shuttle?

By kinnison, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I know it is mainly for an AoR group to be able to "Sneak" into Empire held territory. But the deck plans I have found makes it seem is just too spartan for my tastes, especially if you are doing trips of weeks or month.

"Shuttles" and medium transports are hard to figure out and find since they are more scenery then used.

any ideas?

That's the thing. Shuttles, like couriers, fighter-craft and discount passenger transports are not intended to be in hyperspace for more than a few hours - 12-18 at most. (Of course, in the movies one can argue trips never seem to take more than a few hours in-ship-time, but I digress) So if your rebel group are using an Imperial Shuttle, it would be best for the alliance to do what the Imperials would do - drop the shuttle off from a capital ship a few systems over. (Say, from a Nebulan B)

If you want to keep them more isolated, running around the galaxy on their own, and still have a ship that they can both sleep comfortably in and can pass for Imperial, consider a Scout or Recon ship, like the A-24 or A-36. It's designed for people to be in it for weeks at a time, and is used for official Imperial Operations often enough to be accepted as a cover story.

What's the end game? Are you wanting an "Imperial" millenium falcon? Or just alternates to the lambda?

something bigger then a Stock light freighter.

Been leaning towards the Dynamic-Class Freighter or about that size that can comfortably have 6 crew/passengers, with maybe on occasion 20 troops.

...you realise a Dynamic is smaller than a YT-1300 right?

Anyway, if you want it more combat-y then transport-y then the VT-49 might do well for you, though you'd have to make stats. Otherwise, if your going the "generic's ok" route, than nearly any light freighter with imperial markings will do what you're asking. (This is why I never understood seperating passengers and cargo. Passengers are a form of cargo.

The Blastboat (5 crew, 20 passenger) is also good, if a bit powerful for a starting ship. BP-950 (SoF) might work. 4R3 (DC) might also be good - it's a dedicated assault ship.

Those are good choices....

If you're willing to stat your own (or trust one of us to do it for you)....

The Gamma class assault shuttle is often repurposed for other uses. The "official" version is equipped to deploy a Spacetrooper platoon, but it's essentially just a flying box, so there's no reason it couldn't be reconfigured for everything from cargo, to gunship, to commo. The Spacetrooper carrier is pretty nasty, but an alternate configuration would likely be less loaded.

The Lone Scout-A is a scoutship/transport that's roughly on par with a stock light freighter. The LS-A is sold on the civilian market, but also used for long range recon and transport by the Empire. It even kinda looks like a TIE model, and some sources actually ID it as such.

The Rogue Shadow from TFU is supposed to be a modified transport ship. Would be easy to reskin another ship ( perhaps something like a YT-1000 or YV-560 from Far Horizons) to be the "stock" verson of the ship.

Dangerous Covenants has both the YV-929 Light Freighter and the YZ-775 Medium Transport. Now both technically do not have the listed passenger capacity for 20 additional troops, but both are sturdy heavily armed transports. Being CEC craft they are suppose to be highly customizable. The YV 929 is used by Mercs. While the YZ 775 highly customizable. It actually lists in the description that it is routinely reconfigured by its owners.

Dangerous Covenants (Edge) gives us the 4R3 Light Assault Transport. It's a light combat vessel disguised as a light freighter and it can carry 5 crew and 16 passengers.

The Gozanti Armed Freighter is a bit big (Sil 5), but it's an ubiquitous civilian vessel despite a heavy armament (by transport standards - it's no warship).

Beyond the Rim (Edge) gives the Skywatcher-class Scout Ship. It can carry up to 12 crew (or as few as 3) along with 6 passengers and 12 droids with consumables of a full year.

Imperial gozanti refit. Remove the weapons replace with a dorsal double laser turret and a ventral single laser turret and be done with it.

If you choose to do that, the ventral (single) laser turret is supposed to be a heavy laser cannon according to the Rebels visual guide.

My Players use a Sentinel-class dropship/transport. It's a huge shuttle; room for forty troops plus eight speeder bikes and some E-WEBs. Basically, it's cavernous on the inside. My Players had it kitted out and modified with small, private, one-man sleep cells.

If we're lucky, we will see the official stats on the Sentinel sometime soon.

I'm a fan of the E-9 Explorer from Enter the Unknown. A pretty ship with user-friendly computers and maintenance bays.

I get mine from pg. 273 of the AoR corebook.

Oh? Has it been corrected in later printings?

I dunno about "later" because I ordered mine right when it came out. It is similar to the Lambda. Is it not supposed to be?

It's supposed to be quite different, but the Lambda stats got cut/paste over onto it. They're supposed to give us the corrected stats in the errata some day...

Sorry, just got done slogging through most of the "errata" thread.

...

Wow

...

Anyhow, disregard my previous post

=)

Edit: Since there is a wording variation on the weapons, and the primary stats are different, I postulated it was "working as intended."

As someone with a later printing of the book, I can confirm that while the fluff text is different, as is the stat 'box' (Hull, system, defense), the rest of the stats - crew, passengers, encumbrance, price, weapons... are identical to the Lambda. That is certainly not 'quite' different... I don't know anything about the Sentinel, but 20 passengers and 200 encumbrance doesn't sound like "Forty troops, eight speeder bikes, and some e-webs"

Yeah, it's a massive C/P typo. It's all good, though; I corrected the stats for my Players.
